YES just got 1:30 with....A FAKE CUBE FINALLY...no finger tricks...

now the questions

1. since my cube isn't THAT smooth do you think finger tricks would make a lot of difference?

2. is petroleum jelly(vaseline) really that bad to use? I use it in my cubes...

3. well...can you give me some small or what ever algorithms for edge switching? I'm teaching a friend(s) of mine how to rubik's cube and sometimes they do the cross wrong...the edges are sometimes switched like...where red is supposed to be there is green and vice versa for the other sides...

4. can you give me some maybe a bit shorter corner swapping algorithms for LL? I use LU'R'UL'U'(R?) etc...

gotta sleep ...

In LL : Im beginning to use new algs
for clockwise : R2 U F B' R2 F' B U R2
for anti-clockwise : R2 U' F B' R2 F' B U' R2
those are some edge switchers i use and once used to them they are fairly easy to do.

Edit : gratz on 1:30

thanks for the gratz :)

I use the algos you use for LL .... but lol ... I forgot to put the cross as in the cross in the first layer ... hmm... found one which goes ...
SMD'M'D2M' .. actually I just though of that in my mind lol...

There's no need for algorithms to fix an incorrectly solved cross. Just teach them how to turn the incorrect piece up to the top layer (i'm assuming you solve the cross on the bottom..), ie, turn it 180 degrees, then rotate the top face until the piece is on the correct side. Then, turn it down. . . this will displace another incorrect piece, which you can then turn to the appropriate side and turn down. . .

dont use vaseline on your cube.

algorithms can be found on a myriad of sites. . . such as www.cubewhiz.com (see OLL and PLL)

also, buy a new cube. they are like $9 at walmart.

while there, ALWAYS open your cube before you buy it. test it to see how it turns.. .. if it's bad, you can easily put it back into the packaging and back onto the shelf :)

having a decent/good cube makes a huge difference.

disclaimer: it's possible that the walmart associates will yell at you, as they do to me every time. one strategy is to tell them that someone else took them out of the packaging and that you're just putting them back in (that one worked for me :))

@David Pritts: yeah I just learned no to use vaseline but I was to late ...
I can buy at toys r us in out place... since I live in the Philippines...except I'm in Dubai... :D

@Swordsman Kirby:
1. I wan to buy there too but I have to ask my mom first since she's strict about my hobbies

2. I'm looking for non petroluem based 100% silicone spray/lubricant to use currently :)

3. lol do it intuitively too sometimes but it was for my classmate who wanted to learn how :)

4. I still don't know what optimal is in rubik's/speed cubing xD can anyone tell me?

A note about lubricants:

You don't need a silicone spray lubricant - silicone liquid or silicone oil will work just as well (maybe better).

In order for something - anything - to be propelled out of an aerosol can, it has to be mixed with a carrier or propellant (usually propane or butane). These products will eat the plastic your cube is made out of, not to mention the environmental harm they create.

If you insist on using an aerosol, spray it from at least 6 inches away so the propellant evaporates before hitting your cube. You only want the silicone oil to reach the pieces of your cube, not the chemical propellant in the aerosol.

DO NOT pop an edge piece out of your cube and spray the lubricant inside, because along with the silicone oil you will also coat the interior of your cube with the propellant chemicals, which will ultimately damage your cube. You CAN lubricate your cube this way with a liquid or an oil - you should not with an aerosol.

well....we were supposed to buy me a new cub but my mom forgot .... it was supposed to be what my friend would get me but there was like .. a revival o rubik's cubing in the phil and so the rubik's brand cubes at TRU were out of stock...

and he got me a eastsheen 2x2x2 cube instead ... it's so easy to solve but I appreciate his effort of looking for a cube

YES we were able to buy a rubik's brand rubik's cube in Dubai here today :) ... I like it been solving it quite a lot already but I can't do finger tricks....although my old record was broken now by 3 seconds
