I recently got a Wittwo and I have to say I don't like it.

I have a Dayan Zhanchi 3x3 and i thought I'd get the Wittwo 2x2 just to test a different brand. I've broken it in, tensioned and lubed it. It's so much worse than my Zhanchi. It's much harder to turn and the Zhanchi is so much smoother, it turns like a dream. It's also noisier.

I thought at first it was just too tightly tensioned so I tried fixing it. It helped a tiny bit each time but I detensioned it as far as it would go and it's still quite bad. I don't know if I just have my Zhanchi really loose or something or if it's simply not as good (you're more limited in how loose you can tension the Wittwo as the screws start rubbing against the corner pieces). And lubing it made strikingly little difference.

I'm making the assumption that the Dayan Zhanchi 2x2 performs equally as well as the 3x3. I mean don't get me wrong the Wittwo does turn fast/corner cut well but my Dayan Zhanchi is just godly by comparison.

Have I got a bad cube or is this just preferred by some people?

I had a similar problem with my lingpo. It felt way too scratchy and felt cheap. What i did was misalign the layers and pour a bunch of weight 3 in where the internal edges meet. After 5 minutes, it was sooo smooth and beast. I think 2x2s require the most lube and care.

Yeah I've lubed the core with weight 5 and the pieces with weight 2. I might have missed the outside of the internal edges so I'll try that.

I got a Wittwo for the same reason. Mine is decent, but its scratchy feel and catchiness mean I don't use it all that often. I got the Dayan 2x2 and haven't looked back. That said, I agree with PenguinsDontFly, I think 2x2s are difficult enough to set up properly.

The wittwo came before the dayan and any other major 2x2 that people used today. the Wittwo was released in 2011 while the dayan was 2013.
a few people still use it as their main because it fits their style, I use it because I don't like 2x2 enough to buy a dayan, lingpo or xingyu :P
