Where to start improving my roux solve?

I've been using fridrich for a while and can average sub-30. Then I found the roux method (waffle's tut). I like it very much because of its M-slices and the freedom I have solving the cube. Well, I learned it about a week ago and I have the feeling that I'm not really getting faster (~40sec.).

My question: where should I start to practice to get faster?

I can do the first block in less than 10 moves, but that really needs a lot of time for me.
I haven't learned any CMLL or COLL cases yet so I'm using 7 OLLs and some PLLs.
I think with more than 2 minutes time I could solve the cube in less than 60 moves (M counting as only 1 move, because it's actually as fast as a normal move for me)

So, please help!

(my english isn't that great.. I'm from Germany.)

Hi, well the Roux method (and any other newly learned method) takes time to get fast with it, as i know you are practicing for a week? this is not enough for getting faster

-try to practice a lot
-do the same colors for the blocks all the time ( i always do the blue one with white on bottom)
-get the first block to the left
-after the first block, do the second block without cube rotations, only use R moves, U moves, and M moves, you can get it, re watch the tutorials
-learn making good M2 moves
-learn ZOMG CMLL algorithms (witch are 2, 1 to swap tow corners next to each other, and one to swap two opposite corners)
-practice, practice and practice :)

after that, complete learning the CMLL algorithms

hope this helps

Well, thanks first...
1.) practice.. yeah.. of course
2.) ok, I thought it would be better to be colour-neutral.. but I'll try doing it with the same colours over and over again.
3.) I still do it like that.
4.) same..
5.) ok, gonna do this next.. Two algorithms should be done in a day ;)
6.) yes...

I thought I would be able to get faster quicklier, because it just took me three weeks, when I first started cubing to learn fridrich (2look-LL) and to average below 45 seconds..
Well, thank you. I'll keep practicing

ok, thanks ;) I'll work on my blocks^^
How do you think about the colour? Completely neutral or sticking to one colour for the beginning. Because blocks obviously need less moves being colour neutral.

for beginners, stick to one color scheme. This way you'll know what to look for immediately and keep track of those pieces. When you feel confident enough, then you should try to be more partial neutral.
Personally, I'm opposite color neutral. I can build blocks with white or yellow on U and any color left on L and R

Thank you again. I'll just try out and practice.

edit: the last link from roux central REALLY helps I think..

Not like you need it, but I've been getting faster with roux recently. I was a sub-25 fridrich solver before, but I'm getting to sub-25 with roux. I did an average of 50 yesterday, so I think I can safely say that I'm sub-30 with roux.

I use white for D colour about 90% of the time, only when I can't find an easy block on white, do I solve on yellow. That adds about 2-3 seconds onto my solve for the extra recog.

I try to plan out 3 of the 5 pieces (centres don't count) of the first block while tracking the last two pieces.

On the second block, it's very useful to make use of the 'M' slice that we get compared to fridrich, this makes some cases that are weird on fridrich quite easy on roux.

I use fridrich f2l a bit in my second block, my move count is high (I should fix that) but I'm trying to look ahead at the same time.

EO can be done very easily, I try to track the UL/UR pieces while doing this.

LSE is very simple since I tried to come up with an algorithm sheet on rouxcentral for it.

ok, guys..
I have just taken the times of my solve and came out with this:
14.35 sec. for the first block
11.97 for the second one
6.89 for the corners (two steps)
3.45 for EO
and 18.72 (!!) for the rest
[55.38 sec.]

I had no time to do the inspection, I just took out a scramble and did each step seperate without looking ahead for the next step..

So, for me it's obvious i have to practice the very last step. After I did that a bit, I wanted to see my time again and 37.88, 35.45, 41.03 came out of nowhere (non-lucky, although I don't really know where you can have so much luck doing roux).
I really can't explain where this improvement comes from, but I'm happy with it.
Thanks for your help! And I'm on my way becoming sub-20 :D

I think you should do an average of 5 or 12 for each step with 15 seconds of inspection before each step. Nice progress though!
