What puzzle doesn't require you to be fast at 3x3?

Well I'm looking for what I want for Xmas, and I want a new cube. The thing is, I suck at 3x3. Seriously like a 55 secs avg cuz I dnt really like it. But anyway what could I be good at without having to get good at the 3x3.

Since bigger cubes require you to reduce them then do it just like a 3x3 or a megaminx you solve just like a 3x3, yeah so I dnt really want those. I already have a magic btw.

i will say square-1, magic and mastermagic
but according to erik's "basic speed" theorem, gettin fast at one thing will probably make you faster in others. so i will just get what i want and get good at it

Pyraminx, clock, square-1, magic, master magic, FMC. You might also enjoy BLD. There's a guy out there who has a 1:13 BLD solve in competition, but doesn't even know a speed solution, so he just does BLD solves during the speed 3x3 round.

I am very (well, relatively) slow at 3x3: I average around 23-24 on my best days.

I am very (well, relatively) fast at square-1. I average around 17-18 on my best days.

There's no such requirement for big cubes, just learn a method which suits you better than reduction. And at megaminx, a good recognition is more important for getting good times than being superfast at 3^3.

You can really do anything else without being good at speedsolving 3x3. I am just average at it but am quite good at OH and I think there is someone like that for most every other event. Like there is different turning speeds and corner cutting and recognition used on other sizes or shaped (minx) puzzles so that if you practice on that puzzle enough you can catch up with or pass the other best cubers on that event.
But yea if you want to buy a new cube try a sq1.

Oops, hadn't noticed the others. And FMC is considerably different from speedsolving and more importantly, it's actually more about puzzling than just the "follow recognize-and-apply rules" that speedsolving is.

Oh and I agree with TMOY that Crickets is completely wrong about megaminx and the larger cubes.

Seconding the square-1, though being fast at square-1 involves a lot of the recognize/apply algorithms process which might be why you don't like 3x3 speed in the first place.

Not everything has to be about speed. Just because you're slow at 3x3 doesn't mean you can't enjoy megaminx or big cubes. Try focusing on the puzzle aspect for a change. Even if you can't be competitive at a puzzle doesn't mean you can't still have fun with it. On the 3x3 front, look into FMC and BLD. I found BLD much more enjoyable than working on 3x3 speedsolve. I got pretty decent at BLD (back in the day I had a world class ranking) while pretty much neglecting 3x3 speed.

surely magic/master magic/clock/snake?

i have never tried, and dont particularly want to try, any of these events, but i doubt you have to be good at 3x3 to be good at any of them.

EDIT
just reread the first post... making this irrelevant!

get a 7x7, and dont do the std reduction:D
