The problem with this is that new people come in all the time and have to start from scratch. However you are right in thinking that there would be quite a lot of people that will average sub8 by this time.

I can imagine 7-8tps avg being the standard for the very fastest, so it would just depend how many moves they took (I guess around 45-47 average for an 'optimised' Fridrich style solve would be doable).

3 years ago a sub10 average of 12 was unbelievable as well as a sub11 average of 100, and now we have a sub9 average of 100. Don't you think it will take less than 5 years to get a sub8 average of 100? I would say 1, maximum 2 years. (Sub7 average of 12 as well.)

I said at most. I think it's more likely to happen within 1 or 2 years but it has to happen within 5, in my opinion.

I voted 7.5-8. I think sub 7 will take a really long time still, but I think its possible.

EDIT to clear up a bit, I think in a couple years we will be around 7.5ish (the pros I mean.)
