What do I do next?

Hi. After getting some good references from this site, I finally decided to join. I am a intermediate cuber with a PB of 37.92 (lucky solve with OLL already done) seconds and and average of 50.82 seconds. I am done with the beginners method and I am learning the F2L, OLL, PLL method. I am currently learning the algorithms for F2L from the "magic finger tricks" page from speedcubing.com. Am I going in the right direction? What should I do next? Thanks in advance for the help.

I am in very much the same position as you and I would say that it is bad to learn F2L algorythms as you should be able to do it intuitively. remeber you can make a pair with out changing the orientation of a corner.
Try to get used to looking ahead, this is what I am having trouble with.

The thing that will speed you up the most is learn 2 look OLL so that is 9 algs instead of 57 and all the 21 PLL's. Don't be lazy just take your time and learn them one bey one, say 2 a day

Okay thanks, I'm currently looking for the 2 look OLL and I'll check the "magic finger tricks" page for the faster versions of the PLL's. Thank you

I would reccomend searching around more then the magic fingertrick magic...
I havent checked out that part of speedcubing.com but there are some pretty weird algs in the alg section.
Check out the PLL list on this site over in the Speedcubing section. there are loads of algs to pick from there.

You could also look into petrus, roux and other methods. I find that they have all helped me understand the fridrich method and F2L even better.

I was in almost the exact position as you when I joined this site in January and I am now down in the low 20's for pb and average around 25-30 depending on the day.

When you are learning the OLL and PLL's you don't need to learn them all at once. I found that starting with a four look until I mastered all the plls then a 3 look and finally a 2 look worked for me gradually working in new ones as I got the others under my fingers. One of the sites has percentages of occurance of the Oll's which I used and memorized the ones that are always coming up first (there are a couple of weird ones that I still don't have memorized but I only run into them every once in a blue moon so I just do a 2 move Oll when I get them. Don't pressure yourself to learn them all in certain time frame; just keep adding new ones as you learn the others.

The biggest time saver is really the F2L and it just takes time and practice to get really fast at it. I learned the algos for it with the cross on top and now do a more intuitive cross on bottom (though I did translate some of the long case algos). I would recommend splitting your F2L practice between fast solves and really slow look ahead solves to maximize your efficiency at it....seeing the next move and the ability to do the moves quickly are both equally important in your progress.

Keep at it and you'll improve very quickly down to the 30 range then the progress gets slower and slower.
