I can hardly get past step 2 of the Guimond Method, where you are supposed to apply one of the 16 algorithms. When I see which one I'm supposed to use, I do all the moves and it seems as if it gets neither sides oriented. A few times it worked, most times it hasn't. Did somebody go through something similiar with this, because I feel like I'm making a simple mistake that I can't identify.

PS. I'm using a Mefferts 4x4 as my 2x2, not that I think that makes a difference.

I use a 4x4 as a 2x2 cube until the ice cube [ D: ] I ordered comes, and I had the same problem as you when I first tested out Guimond. I figured out that either:
1.) The sides ended up on L/R or F/B faces, and vault said.
2.) Or I didn't put the unoriented cubie on the first layer in the DBL spot, which is what Emersonn was kinda saying.

Edit:
Can't remember what I wanted to edit.
