Trying to get a laptop, need some advice

laptops are for noobs.

build a gaming desktop.

Did you miss the whole fact that he's going to college?

Uh no? I'm in college and I have a gaming desktop that I built. Most college students think they need a laptop like they're actually gonna take it around places. Who actually takes their laptop around? Not many stduents actually need to do that. Plus, when you build a desktop, it's generally cheaper and you get more moneys worth as desktops are potentially faarrrrr more powerful than laptops. The computer I built for under 800$ will make any macbook look like a piece of poop... and macbooks are what? $1k? LMAO. Biggest scam known to man...well one of the biggest..

A mac laptop is far superior in hardware and continuity than any laptop you could put together yourself. Even if you don't want to use OS X, the hardware in a mac is better than most you will get out there anyway.

I dunno about that. Maybe the continuity part, but that's a given when the software manufacturer controls every aspect of the hardware. As far is superior hardware, I priced out a 13" Dell Inspiron with the same specs as a $999 macbook, and the price came to $624. Mac hardware is decent, but it's not superior, and certainly not for the price.

That said, I'm gonna have to say eeePC. I got one 2 years ago and haven't used another computer since.

maybe you could reinstall whatever OS you're using. Your current laptop can't be that slow.

It's a single desktop for the whole family. Windows Vista. 512 MB of RAM. It sucks so bad.

I should've known this would turn into a Mac vs PC debate :fp Thanks to the people who actually helped.

@sequencius: like i said in the first post, prettymuch all of the gaming I'll be doing is flash games on the Internet so I don't think I need much of a gaming computer. Just enough to do what I need it to without it pissing me off with its slowness.

Oh and I highly recommend upgrading to the LED screen. It makes your battery last WAY longer and the viewing angle is really good.

I'm not seeing the option to upgrade that on their page. Am I missing something or did they take away that option?

2.Macs crash just as much as PCs.

Orly? That statement is at best too general to be correct, and at worst just blatantly untrue.

Anyway, I've never owned a Dell and haven't owned a PC in years, but if I were you, I would probably just order from the Dell website, assuming that you don't need the computer to be too high-performing. The only thing you may want to change would be the hard drive capacity, as I've completely filled up my 250GB HD in a little over two years. If you don't plan on installing a large amount of programs or anything on it you should be good.

Also, I would like to personally advocate using a Linux OS, but use whatever you feel comfortable with.
