So this isn't nearly as deep as my last post but outlines something pretty weird that happened to me recently.

As I'm sure you're all aware, the general public always seems to think solving a cube is either way, way harder than it is, or way, way easier than it is. They always think we're either super geniuses or that there's like one algorithm we repeat until it's solved.

One time a few years ago this man known for being a jerk in general approached me and said something like, "I just want to say I know you're not a genius (literally never told him I was). I just learned the cube is actually solved with something called 'algorithms' and there's no thinking involved at all."

I tried to explain how it generally works in a few methods and he interrupted with, "So you're saying you don't use algorithms?"

I could have explained that, yes, I can do that with commutators and such that I intuitively understand, but that it's faster to use some algorithms with most of the solve still being intuitive, but I just sighed and hung up the notion of explaining it to him.

Well about a week ago I was randomly remembering this, and started having the imaginary reenactment conversation I should have had with him (super cringe I know lol) and solving a cube as I internally explained each step of CFOP as if I'd had a cube handy that day. I wasn't doing anything efficiently at all due to the internal explanation as if teaching a beginner. I did a very inefficient orange cross piece-by-piece. I solved the back-left pair very inefficiently followed by the front-left pair also inefficiently. I was probably 3 or 4 minutes in, not even remotely a speed solve.

Here's where the internal conversation stopped because I was taken aback by what I was now holding. F2L for green, which was my left face was completely coincidentally solved by my actions and I was left with only a ZBLL case if I abandoned orange and did a rotation! This was complete luck and not something I planned at all.

Granted, I would have solved completely differently under normal circumstances and not ended up with this anyway, but ever since then I can't stop thinking about how fast someone could have solved that if the same thing happened to them after planning an orange cross and those two pairs in inspection and executing it at high TPS.

I actually think this might not be the first time I ever saw this but it definitely is after getting fairly proficient unless I just didn't notice at full TPS. Kind of a pointless post but I wanted to share. Cheers.
