In today's review, I would like to mention a completely new product, which is the latest magnetic 3x3 from QiYi's MS series.
After the company announced the price, I was also surprised why with such a cheap price there is a built-in magnet? Is its quality worthy of Thunderclap v3 M or YuLong V2 M? Is it worth buying? To clarify this, let's dive into the article!
UNBOXING
The MS cubes are sealed inside a protective box like the WuWei. Wrapped around is a thin plastic layer to keep the box inside always in a new state, not scratched. I appreciate this design, especially on a product line with a relatively low price like MS.
The good thing about the box is that you can completely reuse it, use it to store and preserve the cube, as well as take the cube anywhere without fear of damage, or even use it for display. When boxed, the cube itself is also covered with another thin layer of plastic, very reassuring. I rarely talk about the box so much, but I personally support this new direction of QiYi, just hope the cube creates the same excitement as its box.
The inside is also very simple, only a piece of paper on how to play, and our main character - QiYi MS 3x3. The cube has been lubeed since production and is a bit too much, so when you open the box you will see a little bit of lube leaking out, it's best to wipe it down. In addition, the spring compression is also very comfortable by the manufacturer.
Like other cubes, you can still choose the stickerless version or black with Sticker.
QiYi MS has a moderate weight, about 82g, but the size will be a bit big. Large sites and the company have not given specific measurements, so I will temporarily compare it with GAN 356XS.
Although the difference is only about 0.5mm, it is still very significant, especially for those of you who are used to playing with 54mm size. However, if you are a middle-aged girl or boy who is in high school or older, this size is no problem, in general the grip experience is still very comfortable and fits in the hand.
The external design and color system are no different from the company's products and I personally think it is beautiful and good enough. Nothing to complain about at all.
STRUCTURE
1/MAGNET
QiYi MS uses a magnet size of 4x1.5 which is considered the current standard with a very moderate suction power, suitable for the vast majority of players. If MoYu is gradually lowering the magnet force in their products, QiYi is the opposite. From Valk 3M, Thunderclap v3, WuWei and now 3x3 MS, you can clearly feel the increase in suction strength.
2/ PIECES (CUBIES)
The structure of the pellets is also extremely unique, or rather, I have never seen an edge designer like this before. The edge body is smaller inward, creating a large gap when the pieces are put together. I guess it's because of this design that when MS rotates, it makes a very unique "click" sound.
Another thing that you should note is that the plastic material processed for MS is quite thin, brittle and rough. It's not really perfect compared to its two brothers, Thunderclap v3 or WuWei M. I also expected this because the MS is so cheap while having built-in magnets.
TURNING ABILITY
1/ FEELING
Recently QiYi has released a lot of good cubes like Thunderclap V3 or Wuwei, so I hope the product in hand has such quality. However, after rotating it, the feeling of the cube is not what I thought it would be. Not bad, not slow, but MS feels extremely strange and unique.
I tried to find a cube with similar feel to compare but couldn't think of one. Not only unique, the feeling it gives is also somewhat satisfying.
Right from opening the box, the cube has made a strong impression with very sharp, extremely smooth "clicks", light turning, without causing catching or twisting. If you like crisp sounds like layers hitting each other, listening clearly and with ears, you will definitely be interested in this product.
Cube is not too fast and flexible but in return is very stable. The layers are stable thanks to the moderate magnet force and special structure. I think most cubers will be satisfied with the quality of the cube alone, well worth the money.
3/ CORNER CUTTING
The ability to cut corners is not the strong point of the MS when the cube can only cut down somewhere about 40 degrees with the preset level from the manufacturer. 45 degrees can still be cut but the feeling is much stalled and not very comfortable. If you cut the right angle, it's only 25 degrees. Overall still within acceptable level.
RATING
MS is not outstanding in any aspect, but the overall quality I think is extremely good and worth the money.
1/ ADVANTAGES
Good performance, has the best price in the segment.
Speed is good and stable, no catching or twisting corners.
The medium-sized magnet is suitable for most players.
Reusable carrying box.
The sound is loud and crisp if you like.
2/ CONS
Plastic is brittle and thin, affecting the durability of the cube.
Noise, the sound is not pleasant for those of you who evaluate the smoothness and quietness.
CONCLUSION
To sum up, QiYi MS 3x3 has made a huge impression for me.
Although not outstanding in any aspect, the overall quality is extremely good, even beyond expectations. Very suitable for those of you who do not have or do not want to spend too much money on a Rubik's Cube but the quality must exceed the price range.
