In the sliding start debate, some people have said competitors would just not film their solves.
In my opinion, it's perfectly reasonable to require a record of any kind to have camera verification (ignoring FMC and maybe multiblind). Virtually all records nowadays are filmed, with the last controversy I remember being Yusheng Du's single WR, but was still on camera from security camera footage. Records deserve higher levels of scrutiny to be verified, and I really don't buy the argument that a top level cuber (not a random competitor) doesn't have a phone camera or friend to film. This is also the standard for any "sport", including speedrunning.

The difference with speedrunning is that it traditionally happens at home, whereas cubing wrs occur at competitions. Of course, judges can miss some things, but it feels like a strange requirement for competitors. Even if most top level solvers can film their solves, there's always cases like Yusheng Du, and not every person will be accidentally recorded on security camera footage.
