D: My Guhong won't make it in time before I go to my family's house a couple of hours away, should I just get a Rubik's brand 3x3?

Edit: This makes me sound spoiled, but the question still stands

Edit 2: I'm probably just going to hope that the Guhong gets here quickly

Better to have a store bought 3x3 than no 3x3. I guess it just depends on how long you want to wait or how much you want to spend? If you got to walmart to get it you may also want to invest in some CRC lubricant while you're there.

I didn't realize that Wal-Mart has CRC... I forgot to lube my 4x4, so it might be worthwhile.

Welcome to Speedsolving, if someone writes something you don't understand, this list should help you out, at least a bit.
You can study the whole list if you want, but many of those is things you rarely will come by.
Try to get a hold of CRC, Jigaloo, silicone oil or any of the other things that appears in the wiki, the three I listed is the most popular from what I've understand, I prefer to use CRC and silicone oil on occasion. I think many would agree with me when I say that a Guhong is pretty bad while it's unlubed, but when it is lubed and the tensions is not completely screwed up it'll be great.

Thanks Olji! My parents wouldn't get me CRC even though I offered to buy it, and on the wiki it says not to use WD-40, so I'll just have to live without a lubed cube

Well, I'm not sure about Guhong, but my Zhanchi barely needed lubrication. They are made so well that lubrication is almost unnecessary. Your Guhong will work way faster than you anyway.

My suggestion is you get the cube, but use it within your limits. Nobody said that just because you have a fast cube that you can't slow down. Get a metronome and learn proper fingertricks. Learn lookahead and understand what you are doing. Don't try to learn every alg in one night. Go maybe one or two a day and work within your limits. I'm sure you are super capable of becoming quick but its not gonna happen today. Nor tomorrow. I don't know how quick you learn but do it all at a pace.

You will be a good cuber if you have the right attitude. Perfect practice makes perfect. Amateurs practice until they can get it right. Pros practice until the can never get it wrong.

Get the Guhong, but use it right.

But most of all dude, have fun. It is so satisfying to cube and to solve. Enjoy it. Celebrate the victories man.

Have fun and happy holidays

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to add, Kirs right. Fast cubes can be turned slowly. Its all in the way you practice.

I'm probably gonna get a Guhong 3x3, and a Shengshou 5x5

As RNewms27 says, both very good also imho... my first speedcube was a guhong 3x3 and its still great (I switch between ZhanChi and LunHui now - they're both amazing cubes :)) I also have several 5x5's and I think my fav is the Shengshou. Ghosthand would be aawesome if it didnt explode alll the time (literally :))

I have one last question. Is it fine to start with any Rubik's Cube tutorial, or is there a method that's better for transitioning into faster methods?

If you wanna try LBL, I like this for several reasons. imho it's a good way to start learning LBL and is easily extendible if you wanna learn more about CFOP eventually. You also don't have to memorize many algorithms (I think 6 or something at most - really less because a few of them are extremely intuitive once you see how they work). But that's just my two cents (which really isnt worth much :))

I still use my Rubik's when I'm on the bus or in the car. Why? Because it's so silent. My F-II makes sooo much noise, and anyone I'm in a car with goes banana whenever I'm cubing in the car.
