Non- Java cube timers?

Are there any non java timers that are any good? My rents won't let me get the new java and i need a better timer than cubetimer.com, one that will actually save my times

That ranks pretty high on my list of stupid things parents might do. Also, Cubetimer saves times if you have cookies enabled.

I think JNetCube may also work with older versions of java.

If you want your times to be saved I recommend Cubemania, although they won't keep track of averages for long sessions. (qqtimer will do that, but with qqtimer you have to save the times yourself when you are done.)

Also, tell your parents that people you know who actually know something about computers say that there is no reason not to update Java regularly

It's great for BLD where you can split your memo and execution time. And also it's keyboard-based controls.

Find your version of Java, then find all the security release notes since to date, print them out and show them to your "rents".. If you/they have applets enabled in your browser, it's very naive and insecure to use a JVE with known attack vectors whether your timer runs under it or not.

Protip: Steer the conversation *away* from simply disabling Java in the browser because, though it's orders of magnitude safer, it *is* counter productive to your goal. ;-)
