New type Black DIYKit 3x3x3 (a) first model

haha... that topic is about a different kind of diy....
but I have seen them talked about in other threads. I think Dan Harris has one. If I had a job I would buy one but I'm a poor college student lol. I think what I heard is that since all the pieces are closed in they have caps that fall off but other than that they are very good. But I don't have one myself yet, maybe when they go from being a sample and they get all the kinks out I will buy one.

To Me: i meant the new DIY offered by cube4you, there are still samples with problems...

To Lofty: so if the caps keep on then the new ones would be better?

I partially agree with Ron, they ARE really great cubes, but I worry if they are stable enough to use in competition. Mine pops more often than I would like, and Ron, yours popped twice in the Italian Open final, despite remarking how stable they were outside the Vatican the day or so before, but perhaps you rectified this/use a different cube now. Even with the screws fully tightened, I think my cube is just a fraction too loose.

u mean the cube pops too often because it doesnt have arched centers? or do the caps of the edges keep dropping out? or both? lol.

No, the assembly is great, it doesnt come apart or anything. But the cube does pop more often than a cube4you old type A, I don't know if that is to do with the centre arches or not.

Hi Dan,

yours popped twice in the Italian Open final
Yes, you are right. I noticed too late that one of the screws was unwinding.
I fixed that problem and now I don't want to use other cubes anymore.

I had the same problem in Polish Open 2007 in 5x5 event. One of the screws was broken, but somehow it was still able to solve it. I am glad Ton was able to fix it for me with new screws and kernel.

Have fun,

Ron

I'm not sure if mine's defective, but it's my first diy. It seems that it's not very stable, so I tightened the screws and have been moving the sides around to try to break it in. However, it still seems that it pops sometimes, and that on a couple of sides, when you move it, you can literally orientate the corner piece that's going to the bottom, and there's a problem with the pieces getting caught on the center piece while doing this, so that it's wobbly. I haven't lubed it yet or untightened the screws, which is not such a good idea, since it keeps popping. Overall, the pieces just seem, er.., sproingy. On one side, the screw won't really go all the way in. I'm not sure if I should switch it with another side. Any admonitions are welcome.

(On a side note, I can't seem to upload an avatar, even though my image meets the limits.)
