Total beginner- just learned to solve it by the beginner method using righty and lefty algs (end with sexy moves). My kids are learning too... and of course I'm in competition with them to see who can solve the fastest <addicting>.

Where can I find a tutorial (preferably video) on how to get faster at each of the beginner steps so that I can work on them one at a time? Or should I just skip this and learn another method right away like the Roux method? Or perhaps another method that's between the beginner and the Roux. Preferably one that doesn't have a lot of memorization- doh.

Layer by Layer + 2 Look OLL are two good methods to mix together. I've gotten times down to around sub-20 with LBL and 2Look OLL (full PLL though). So, LBL + 2 Look, and when you're comfy with that, start learning Roux. (i don't know roux, so...)

Hi halfrhovsquared (dynamic pressure?) :),

I agree that 2 Look OLL is good start, and I would also throw in 2 Look PLL too, for a total 4 Look Last Layer.

Below is a link to a one-page quick reference sheet that shows how it can be done using only 9 main algorithms (in different ways) for the 16 LL cases. Most of these algs still have useful applications with more advanced CFOP too, if you go that route.

It is set up as a "bring you own F2L", so you could do LBL for the First 2 Layers if you'd like.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look up those methods and check out the ref sheet. Are there youtube vids to go with the ref sheet by chance (now I'm getting greedy)? For example, to just make the cross per the ref sheet I assume you do it in that order (BOGR) and is there a video that shows tips on how to do that quickly?

So far I've been using primarily the sexy move alg and it's simple to remember but time consuming.

Unfortunately, I haven't made any videos yet.

To do the cross for beginners, I teach the daisy method (getting all 4 edges up around the yellow center on the U face) but you may be beyond that. (there's tutorials around web for that)
It's also good practice is to make the cross on the bottom of the cube.
I've used BOGR just to remember the order of the colors around the cube.
Here's a good series of cross videos: of

My info sheet doesn't go into that, it's mostly for an optimized 4LLL method.
