First of all, I love the MF3RS. I love the buttery smoothness of that cube when it's broken in. The Z Magnetic is an MF3RS with magnets. Out of the box it felt a bit dry and scratchy. So I added some Traxxas 50 to the screws and some Lubicle 1 to the pieces. After a couple dozen solves that buttery smoothness I like was back.

The magnets are far more subtle than I expected. This is my first magnetic cube and I wasn't sure how it was suppose to feel. But after several solves I realized that it really does add to the stability of the cube. It took a dozen solves or so to get use to the different feel and it certainly doesn't slow down the cube at all, it just feels a bit more stable than normal.

I did notice that the magnets are not consistent. On my cube the white face has a significantly softer "lock" when the magnets line up than the other faces. Even when scrambled I notice that some corners "lock" while other just "bump". Their may be different magnets on some corners or perhaps the magnets on some corners were not aligned as accurately as the others. It's not a fatal flaw by any means, but the difference does exists.

However, at this price point, that is a very minor flaw and I have no idea if it's consistent or just an issue with my cube. Either way I can recommend this cube as a perfect budget magnetic cube.

Follow up after a week of solves:

The inconsistency with the magnets is becoming more noticeable to me because it occurs at random points in my solve. Depending on where the white faced cubes are I may or may not feel the lack of "lock" during a move. That inconsistency isn't enough to mess up my times (which aren't great by any means) but it's distracting when some moves feel different from other moves.

I also noticed another review at TheCubilce.us that mentioned an inconsistency with the magnets so this doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.

After a week of use: This is still the first cube I reach for. I still love the feel, the smoothness, the stability, and the quiet sound of the cube. But there is room for improvement. If the magnets were consistent then this would be a knock it out of the park home run gotta get one cube. But the one I got isn't quite there yet.

Further follow up: The white face is the one which has the less powerful magnetic force. Last night I was very slowly turning that face and it feels like there is a subtle "grab" at about 5 degrees clockwise. This seems to show that at least one magnet had slipped while the glue was drying.

**************

Still further follow up: It turns out that one magnet was glued in backwards. I popped it out and re-glued it and the the cube is stunningly good for the price. But this does point to the type of quality problems others have mentioned about this cube.
