This morning I got an entire last layer skip, giving me an 18.55 second solve. This is extremely fast for me, because I just began learning CFOP. I was using the beginner's method, and I average 30-40 seconds with it. I have several sub-30 solves, but they all had skips involved. Even when I do finish learning CFOP, it's probably going to take a lot of practice to beat this lucky 18 second solve. Personally, I think it's a bit deceiving to save it as my personal best. But at the same time, most other people I know would mark it down, including in WCA competitions.

What do you think? I'm very curious to see what the experienced cubers on here has to say on the topic. If you had such a lucky solve that you cut your average in half, would you save the time as your personal best?

Absolutely! I average high 13 seconds as of right now, and if I got a LL skip and got a say, 6 second solve, I would 100% keep that time as my personal best. Some wolves are just a but luckier than others, and you just so happen to get a really lucky one, so congrats!

Absolutely it counts as your PB. Just be careful to not fall into the trap that your PB is your average or your goal. What you typically average, and even your best Ao5 or 12 is going to be higher than your PB, so just don’t expect to constantly beat your PB. Focus on your average

Good point, I tend to prioritize my single best over my average. Thanks for the input, now back to work on those averages....

Good mentality! And yeah, I think this is a shift that happens at some point after you've been cubing for a while. In the beginning it makes a lot of sense to track your PB single because you break it frequently enough that it's actually not a terrible metric of improvement. Once you've done tens or hundreds of thousands of solves though, your PB single is really just a fun flex that correlates pretty poorly with improvement. In the past 3 years I haven't beaten my 3x3 PB single at all, but my PB average of 1000 has improved from 9.98 to 9.67, and that's actually a pretty accurate metric of what I averaged then and now.

So yeah, I think a huge PB single on a last layer skip is a great sign to start putting more focus on your averages. Congrats on the solve by the way, PB singles are always hype even if averages are your focus :)

I had a LL skip on 4x4.

But I didn't count because I'm badass

also because it was hand scramble and I wasn't timing ;_;

wow that's 4 times as unlikely as on 3x3
I once had a sort of LL skip on 6x6, where I only had to do oll parity, pll parity and LL was done, so it kinda was oll + pll skip
