Hey guys,

I have a comp on Jan. 2 in Nashville.
I am going to prepare for the comp by learning full WV.
It is a method where 3 edges on the LL are oriented and one pair is out, so you do an alg to skip oll and insert the pair.
There are 27 algs total, which means starting on Saturday, Dec. 19 and stopping on Saturday, Jan. 2 would give me just enough time to learn two a day.
I will be learning the algs in order off of Chris's website. http://www.cyotheking.com/winter-variation/
I will post the algs I learn for the day. I will learn 1 in the morning and one in the evening.

EDIT: Well, it looks like I can learn a bit faster than that. I will be learning 5/6 algs a day.

Good luck with Music City Winter 2016! I'm mad I can't make it :/

Todays Algs:

Alg #1: 3 Corners Oriented
L' U2 R U R' U2 L
Mirror: R U2 L' U' L U2 R'
Tips: Kind of reminds me of the J-perms, probably because it lands you on a J-perm. Have the pair in the place where you would do a quick insertion, and then perform the alg.

Alg #2: 2 Corners Oriented:
R U' R'
Mirror: L' U L
Tips: Dude, it's literally just an insertion.

That one is kind of a cheat, so i'll do a third for the day.

Alg #3: 2 Corners Oriented #2:
U' R' F R U R U' R' F'
Mirror: U' L F' L' U' L' U L F
Tips: Pretty intuitive algs. It took me a second to get the mirror. The recognition is similar to R U' R'. but the corner on top is flipped. The U' in the beginning changes the position of the pair from an insertion to a sledgehammer position. After that, it starts out with a sledge (R' F) and then becomes a sexy move but without R' and instead R. The rest is fixing the F2L.

Alg #4: 2 Corners Oriented #3:
R2 D R' U' R D' R2
Mirror: L2 D' L U L' D L2
Tips: Fast alg. Bring up the R layer to the top, do the D/D' (depending on if it's the mirror or not), and then bring down the layer to insert the pair, bring it back up, fix the D layer, and fix the F2L.

Alg #5: 2 Corners Oriented #4:
R U' R' U R' U' R U' R' U2 R
Mirror: Not sure yet
Tips: It is SO easy. Just insert the pair and do antisune. Not really WV but it is an easy OLL. For the regular, insert and then do a U and then a Chris-Style anti-sune. If you really want to, you can do a U2 instead to do the other antisune.

Alg #6: 2 Corners Oriented #5:
U' R U' R' U2 R U' R' U2 R U R'
Mirror: Not sure yet.
Tips: Move the pair to the position where you would sledge it in. After that, just do the insertion alg (R U' R') and then U2. After that, set the pair up to be inserted with R U R' by reversing that alg (R' U' R). And then do U2 again and R U R'.

Well then he can go do something else on the forums. Look at Berd's post, for example. It is inspiring and motivating.

Okay, I'll bite. If you want nice, I'll be nice.

Just please consider this:
Your journey isn't unique, and there are literally hundreds of people who have started WV but realised that it probably wasn't worth starting a thread for. If everyone who was learning an alg set wanted to make a thread, this forum would be completely overrun.

Consider how fast Sajwo is, and also consider how long he's been cubing.

You are posting a thread about an extremely well documented subset of algorithms which has been known for yearrrrrrs. You're taking algs from websites (probably Chris Olsen's) which are already well known.

If you were generating these things, that's a different thing-- but you're not.

To many people like Sajwo, collppllzbf2lll, and other people who didn't post but feel similarly, it's selfish that you think you're such a special snowflake, and that you aren't adding anything by posting your journey to a very short subset.

WV is so short and simple it can be learned in a day. WV is practically like, 15 algs. A big percentage of WV is just cancelled OLLs or really obvious ways of inserting a thing.

Just because Sajwo's post might seem mean to you, don't get upset and instead try to see that he might have a point.
Additionally, this is "being nice", I could've been just as "mean" as they are.

Please, try to stop being so defensive and try to have some scope and perspective.

Ok then.

I'm just trying to learn some subsets, get some feedback, and maybe even help someone.
If you want to tell a cuber who hasn't even been cubing for very long (especially not since 2008 like you) that I can't document something, that's fine.

There are 27 cases. The recognition and learning of the algs is not very hard. This may be what you are saying because your account has been on the forums for 7 years. I have been cubing for less than 7 months.

So if you want me to never post one of these types of threads again, that's fine.

You could try making a blog and update that as you go!

The reason why threads like these are frowned upon is this:
1) accomplishing an alg set is nbd, everyone does it, your not adding to the community in any way shape or form from posting it here.
2) learning stuff right before a comp ends poorly. Nuff said.
3) setting a time goal and what not is generally a bad idea, don't limit yourself and don't overdue yourself, if today's a bad day for algs, don't learn any nbd.
4) it's really spammy to see once a day that someone learned 2 algs. Ndb.

If you want people who r interested to see your progress. Make a blog, link it in your signature and update that, or if you want to be simpler. The accomplishment thread is great for this type of thing!

Thanks! Hope you can learn wv and whatever else you want, you can do it! But please don't spam the forums with it, that's just silly

Thanks. If I could, i would just take this down and make a blog like you said. The problem is, I can't delete the thread.

Honestly WV in a day is relatively easy. I did the no edges VLS set on a plane ride to Peru when I was tired ** and didn't know more than like 2 algs going into it. Took about an hour and a half iirc.

All of the WV algs are very simple too except for maybe one or two. I honestly think more people should try learning it in a day because it's really not that difficult and it's really helpful.

how do you dudes learn algs so fast? you learn by muscle memory right?

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, after I got into the stride of things, they absorb pretty quick.
I think alg memo is a skill, and when you practise that over and over, you just naturally get better at it.

Similarly, I predict that your last 2 sets of ZBLL will come significantly easier than your first two.
