I've just finished making the thing :D It turned out SWEET!
I have 2 questions :
1-How should I clean it? (I used mighty putty to fill the hollow pieces)
2-Can I paint it black with black paint spray? Or with what should I paint it? (maybe the black thing for leather shoes?)

Thanks!

good job! I think that when the mighty putty drys, you can clean it like regular plastic. And I think kickflip reccomended that you spray paint it.

I'm not sure what you mean by cleaning it, but as far as painting custom builds, most people use spraypaint, yeah. Make sure it's something that will bond to plastics, like Krylon fusion, and use lots of thin coats. And obviously don't spray the interior of the puzzle or it'll screw up the tolerances. That said, I've painted mods I've made with enamel paint (the kind for model airplanes and stuff) and it turned out just fine.

I want to clean it because it was made out of a QJ tiled 4x4x4 and getting the tiles off leaves glue bumbs behind that I sanded. Basically, the puzzle is more grey from the sanding and white from MightyPutty than black from the original puzzle :P I will clean it with rubbing alcohol. I know its safe. How to you spray paint without screwing the job (paint between pieces)

There you go with the photos.

edit : I uploaded 3 photos and only one showed up...

Nicely done
What do you mean clean it?
If you talking about the dust etc, you can just wash it. But leave the core and screws behind
You can use paint them with spray, but if you want to lube it, you have to disassamble first, or else the paint will wear off due the the frictions.

So what I believe your asking is how you will go about spray painting the puzzle without getting the pant in the internals and ruin the turning quality. I constantly build puzzles for many collectors and I know there is only one way to do it. Tape all the parts on the piece, with blue painter tape, that you do not want to be painted. Then just spray the paint a good six inches away from the pieces to achieve a smooth finish. Also I recommend using black krylon fusion spray paint.

Avoiding getting paint on the internals is really really easy. Assemble the puzzle, hang it from a string and just apply a few thin coats of spraypaint. Never had any trouble with that. No need to tape anything.

If I want to paint all of the pieces, what then? :P Do I still use blue painter tape? Thanks for the advice. I'll be looking for that spray paint went I'm back from school!

yup, but the problem of this methode is, you'll see different colors (from the inner parts) when you start turn your puzzle. It's not a big deal if you want to keep it for your self, but I'm selling moded puzzles too, and I dont want my customers see that. So I spray all parts and add silicone spray (after the paint dries) in un-assembled condition. Then I make sure that everything is dry, then I assemble the puzzle.

I bought exactly the paint you told me to buy! I'm doing it tonight.
I don't want to dissassemble it since it I don't want to assemble it back :P It's for me so, I don't mind seeing imperfections. It's my first ''real'' project so...
