Introduction Threads turning into Personal Bests/Update Threads

I agree with Kirjava 100%. The interesting things get their own threads and the things that can be found with a minute amount of searching get tossed into the OAQT. When a new user posts a question as a thread that has been answered 100 times before, it gets put into the OAQT as a message that that's where we put the question that only need one quick answer. Most of us come here looking for interesting discussions, not 20 threads about stuff we've all answered a bunch of times before. I check the BLD OAQT pretty much every day and answer a lot of questions, and there are people who do the same with the normal OAQT, so don't go around saying that we aren't nurturing to beginners.

I moved the introduction threads with >50 posts to Off-Topic Discussion, so they won't appear on the homepage anymore. I left non-expiring redirects, so you can still find them in the Member Introduction subforum. Hopefully this'll work out; if not, I can move them back. IMO it'd be too messy to merge all the PB update posts with the Accomplishment Thread right now.

Also I closed several threads that were either late introductions (more than a few months after they started posting) or were not introductions at all.

I suggest that there be "home" threads rather than introduction threads, so cubers that aren't new can still make threads to act as their "diaries" or records.
Excellent, where there is a Diary section on the forum that isn't bumped on the home thread.
This has been discussed years ago. The Accomplishment Thread and Blind Accomplishment Thread should be the only "PB Update Threads". Allowing every user to make their own thread to update every record they achieve is unnecessary, and they would further deteriorate the quality of the forums regardless of whether they appear on the homepage. If you really feel the need to have all your PBs in one place, you can use your signature, or have a separate place to keep them.

I'd say don't make a member introduction if your not new.
You're not supposed to. People just ignore this thread, and many others.

You'll still be able to converse, but it just won't bother/spam the home page anymore.
What's depressing is that some people consider this tiny minority of threads spam despite their worthwhile content. Today the forum seems a less tolerant and friendly place than I thought it was.

I don't think it's depressing. Surely everyone has a different opinion about what is "worthwhile" and what isn't. The forum is very friendly and I've always thought it to be so. You do need some way to organize what we have so we don't sacrifice cleanliness for "friendliness". And for those who think these intro/pb/update threads are spam, it's now not appearing on the home page anymore which is good. (Now if only all those threads for competitions on the other side of the world would disappear on my homepage too...) For threads you find interesting for yourself, just subscribe to them.
