I have several sub-5 averages at home with the flip/Pochman (“beginner”) method. The current world record single and average were done with this method as well. My first tip is to ensure that you have a QiYi clock. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s truly the only clock that one can optimally speed-solve with right now. Clock requires a ton of practice. You can decrease your times significantly in a short period of time if you just grind it a bit. You also learn to recognize “lucky cases” which speed up solves, such as two clocks of the cross being solved, or two diagonal from each other matching (and then matching the center clock TO these). Eventually, you may learn corner skips and such; but for now, I just recommend making sure your hardware is good and that you just keep doing solves if you want to get into clock. You CAN learn other advanced methods such as 7-Simul, but the results show that flip can get times just as fast (or in the case of the WRs, even faster).
