Is speedcubing a hyper-niche activity ?

I feel mainstream cubing has been existing for quite a few years and there has not been any big breakthrough in terms of it being wide recognized as not a magic trick and an actual skill to fine tune and compete in.

Top cubers at large still find it hard to get cash sponsorships. Organizers do not give any cash prizes or significant cash prizes. There has been a decline in growth of cubing and in no way is its reach having exponential growth in the market.

Is it just impossible to get cubing mainstream just because it will be perceived as a super...

Following up from this discussion, if cubing is perceived as hyper niche activity by the world. How ultra-hyper-hyper niche is top level multi-bind ?

My passion of pursuing old-style multi-blind is even more niche in the multi-blind community.

An analogy is how the memory sports world perceive the hour cards event. It is energy intensive to do it, only one attempt a day can tire out a competitor and it is not well known among beginners who start competing in memory sports leagues as they first approach, images, speed cards, binary digits etc.

Another analogy is how shogi variants is perceived by the world. Chess is already somewhat mainstream but shogi (japanese chess) isn't. Pursuing shogi variants like kyoto shogi etc is even more niche and would not have a big enough community to grow and discuss knowledge.
