The game of Go is a strategic board game played on a 19x19 board. It is also called as weiqi or baduk.
It is a 2-player game and has a game complexity of 10^150.

The person who captures more territory on the board wins. It is insanely more hard than chess or shogi.

I started playing Go since 2016 after AlphaGo program from the Google DeepMind was able to defeat the world champion of Go. I am quite weak, only a double digit kyu player.

I mostly play on the OGS server online, and I use Lizzie client to analyse my games.

I played go for years but I never managed to reach SDK, almost but not quite. Have not played much recently though. Very good game though, if you have a lot of time I do recommend it even though it has a steep learning curve.

Oh nice, what is your friend's strength, eg 15 kyu, 1-kyu ,3-dan 3p-dan ...

S U M U' M U M2 U' S'
His strength is over 9 thousand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I didn't even know there are strengths in this game

I know this thread is super old but I just learnt Go today. Very interesting and difficult game that I knew practically nothing about before but I'm interested to see if I can get any good at it.

I also had some questions about it if anyone could help out:
How exactly do OGS ratings work?
Are there online or in-person tournaments and are they popular in the West?
And what sets a very good player apart from a beginner like me? Is it completely intuitive strategy or is there more theory to it similarly to chess?
