How could I fix a popping meffers pyraminx?

Well, first off, if your pyraminx looks like *that*, it's beyond help.

More seriously, try getting the tips off (turn one 60 degrees and see if you can find the line between the two parts, there might be some glue) and then tighten the screw a bit on each corner that feels loose. If you're lucky this will fix the problem; if you're unlucky you might end up having to tighten the corner practically every solve. This will fix the pops, though, at least temporarily.

I had to do the second explanation that you said, and my core's threading got worn down, so twist the loose sides counterclockwise and see if they unscrew. If they don't then you are good for now, and if they do, then glue the screw into the core. Be careful that you don't glue any other pieces except the screw.

Problem with that, Paul, is that the tips on a meffert's pyraminx are glued on. It is very hard to get it off, especially since you have very little room to work with.

I don't recommend what I did, but I actually pried out the entire tip by turning it and using a knife. I'm surprised the screw could still stay in. But even when the whole tip was out, I needed to use a dremel and cut the tip open. Not the smartest thing to do, but it worked, although I'd have to go back and tighten it every now and then. I don't use this pyraminx anymore, though.

It's easy: buy a new one!

I've bought a white bling-bling-sticker one and it works pretty well. Offcourse, you can remove the ugly stickers before you go to a public space!

its good because you can turn it into a tetraminx really easily
i was like sub 20 in an evening, but i got bored and havent played with it since, as its just not as good as 3x3...

It's too loose and it locks up more turns than it doesn't.

I used a friends mefferts and it made me like the pyraminx again.
