I like the idea of the video diary. I'd like to revisit old solves but have never recorded anything. My first solve without instructions was over 7 mins.
Yeah, I thought about this idea while I just started, so I was able to get solves back when I was really bad. I thought about recording some ~3 min solves too where I pause and try to remember the algorithms but I figure that will just make the video too long and annoying.
My idea right now is to have 4 solves: my 1:58 with the Rubik's brand (my best time before upgrading cubes), my 1:09 with the Zhanchi (my first decent time with the new cube, so I can show how much a good cube matters), a good time after I learn F2L, probably somewhere in the low 40s or high 30s, and then some time sub-30 when it all comes together, depending how fast I get. It should show some nice stepping stones between upgrading cubes and upgrading methods, rather than just be a collection of 4 random times. I'll probably do something like pause each video after a layer gets completed so the slower times can catch up and then they all start the last layer at the same time. I think it'll be a neat montage.
And how many months started cubing ?
I ordered my Zhanchi 3 weeks ago (the day after I bought a Rubik's brand and decided I needed to upgrade) and it just arrived, so I've been cubing only about 3 weeks, and most of that time was not actively spent going for PRs.
well I think you made a good choice on getting a zanchi because its not to good but good for a beginner but I always hated the dayan cubes in my opinion but your already learning oll and pll? don't you think that's a little advanced for you?
Nah, 2-look OLL and PLL is really easy to grasp. I've already started trying to remember a few other OLL cases outside the standard 7 in the 2-look method too. The reason my times are slow right now is very definitely my bad cross and my inability to find cubies on the cube when trying to solve corners and 2nd layer edges, which I figure only practice can fix. When forming the cross, I try to not always rotate the layer to align with the centers, which requires me to remember what order the colors come in and then just do one rotation at the end, but for some reason it's hard to remember when trying to move fast.
