Hello there!

My name is Matthew, 11 years old. I just started Speedcubing about a month ago during Thanksgiving with Dan Brown(pogobats) updated tutorial because my friend could solve it in a minute and I thought that that was really fast and I thought that it wouldn't be too hard to solve the cube, so I bought a Rubik's Cube from Kohls and then I learned how to solve the cube. After a week though, I started to become really interested in the cube and I searched how to get faster and somebod said to watch Badmephisto's Beginners method and I've been getting faster ever since. Then I bought a Guhong sticker less V1 after watching Badmephisto's How to Become a Speedcuber video.

My pb is 52.94seconds and Ao5 is 1:04.09 and Aof12 is 1:08.00 seconds. I just learned 2 look OLL and I know 4 of the algs from 2 look PLL, also I use F2L, but my average time for F2L is usually 40 secs and for my Pll I keep on forgetting to use my PLL algs and instead I just do Badmephistos begginers Pll( making headlights and then using CW 3 Edge cycle 2 times or CCW 3 Egde cycle 2 times.

Any suggestions on how to get faster on F2L and PLL would be greatly appreciated and any thought on if my times are good or horrible(I think that they are pretty bad.)

:)

Hello. Yar there are no good or bad times, except personal ones so dont worry, just keep making yourself improve your personal bests... Theres no point comparing experienced cubers to you who has only just started. Also the only tips ive got you is to research and find your own flaws yourself (practising solving rather than waiting for people to reply to your questions for help is sometimes better), and the speedsolving mantra; go slow and look ahead.

Make sure you get a good technique going with fingertricks. One thing that hinders slower cubers is the fact that they still do full layer turns using all fingers on one hand. You should only ever need one finger to turn any layer. Unless it's a fast U2/F2/E2/M2. In which case you can use two fingers to speed it up :)

Good luck man! When I started I was over a minute! And now I am sub 20. Hopefully this gives you some incentive.

Thanks! And how could I improve my F2L times? On average they are about 23 seconds and I am having a lot of toruble with look-ahead. Also I dropped my average down to 43.38 seconds! How many PLL algs should I learn per a day? Currently I memorize about 1 a day, but I think that that is really slow. And also recognition for PLL is really slow when using algs for Full PLL.

For F2L: Focus on familiarity by thinking through all of the moves for each pair that you see before making them. Don't just see a pair and start turning, know what you're going to do before you do it. If you can't do it in your head, then do it physically to see it, but then undo it and try it again in your head. Don't worry about look ahead until you are at a point where as soon as you see a pair you just know the moves you're going to do. Then look ahead is just a matter of training yourself to not focus on the pair as you solve it.

For LL algs: Don't worry about how many you do a day, just don't stop until you know them all. You don't want to be the guy that learned all LL algs in a week, but forgets half of them after another week. You also don't want to be the guy who took three years to learn full OLL, when they could learned them all a long time ago with only a couple minutes of practice a day. Learn them at your own pace, just make sure you don't stop. It feels like a lot, but once you know them it feels like a lot less.

So you're looking for new algs for PLL? Instead of going straight for 2LLL (full OLL and PLL), you should start with 4LLL (2 look OLL and 2 look PLL). I have a tutorial on my website; it is here:

Be sure to look there for all the algorithms you need. Good luck!

Thanks! And also how I could I improve my cros, it's really bad, at around 7 to 8 seconds I feel that I could be faster.

I already finished 4 look last layer about 3 days ago, I havent learnt any more algs since then, just trying t improve my look ahead. As for your website I learned some of my algs from your website. Thanks!
