Hello, hello. Just felt I should introduce myself. I'm new to cubing (just a couple weeks), and new to the community. I really like what I've seen here, and hope to become an active member. I like the idea of a community that supports it's members. It's rare these days.

I'm from California, but I am currently living in Japan, doing the English Teacher thing. I have a lot of spare time on my hands here. I live in a tiny town in the mountains. I'm all about puzzles. Really, I just like all games in general. Other hobbies include reading, watching zombie movies and wandering through abandoned buildings.

As I've only been cubing for a short time, my averages are super-bad. As in, really not good. I'm currently averaging around 2:00 for a 3x3 using both the Beginner's Method and the Fridrich F2L. But I'm working on those PLL and OLL algs.

you jerk getting to live in japan xP

and youve been cubing for a few weeks and are already learning f2l and 2LLL (or 4LLL) i think your doing fine.

youkoso (i think thats right)

Although it's never too early to learn Fridrich if you know what you're doing, I recommend you try to get faster with whatever beginner's method you learned, as you can be twice as fast with it than you are now before learning anything better.
Plus, once you're faster, and then learn Fridich, that sudden increase will do you some good. :P

But it's all your choice, and welcome to the forums. Enjoy yourself. :D

First, thanks for the welcome!

Although it's never too early to learn Fridrich if you know what you're doing...

I know the mechanics of the cube, I'm just not very proficient at looking ahead. I use badmephisto's beginner method (like a lot of people here, I'm sure). I just am not a big fan of the beginner's F2L. It is really inefficient, and I'd like to improve efficiency most of all. I feel like using the beginner's method F2L algs won't help me at all for Fridrich F2L.

you jerk getting to live in japan...

Yeah, I love it here. It was a bit of a lucky break. I volunteer at a preschool four days a week, and they give me a giant house to live in by myself, plus money for food. I fund everything else with my freelance graphic design work.

ようこそ。日本語を話すことが出來ますか。

Yeah, I do okay. Currently studying for level 2 of the JLPT. That'll be good to have under my belt. My problem is that my laptop has something seriously against letting me install the Japanese Language Tools. So I can read kana on my machine, but I can't type it. I use my Mac for that, but it's currently in LA.

You better watch out walking around in abandoned buildings in Japan O.o

If pretty much every Japanese horror flick has taught us anything, it's that that's the worst thing you could do out there.

And welcome to the site :)
