Hey everyone, I just joined these forums, infact I've just joined the whole Rubik's Cube scene. I only started trying to Cube about a fortnight ago, when I was giving the cube as a small Xmas present before Xmas, due to me telling stories about friends that do them in like 12 seconds.

Right now, I've only timed myself once using an online timer, after 12 solves, my average was about 2min 40s, with my fastest time being 2min 20s. Once I get my time under about 2min, I think I might try my best to learn F2L (That when you do two layers at once right?)

My cube is a standard 'Rubik's Cube' boxed in hexagonal packaging, I've been told this is the worst of the worst, so I'm looking into buying a decent cube, and lubing it.

Anyway, when I'm not cubing, I love to competitively game, preferably Xbox. I played lots of Halo 2, but with Halo 3 out I formed a new team, and we placed 2nd in Australia(Yes I'm from Australia) at the most recent major LAN, despite just losing in the final, we were still very happy with were we placed, anyway enough of me speaking. (I enjoy to ramble lol)

Haha welcome to the cubing world.

As for the rubiks cube, I would take it apart. And sand everypiece down with a File.(Very fine). Then i would lube it with silicone.

I did that and i now use it for my speedcubing. And my Diy is now my OH cube.

Dont ever think rubiks brand cubes are the worse of the worse they are perfectly fine! Just need some work done.

And f2l = First 2 layer.

Theres Petrus,Roux,And Fridrich f2l

I learned CFOP. Which is cross, first 2 layer, and then orient last layer, then permute last layer.

I would suggest getting in the 1:20's before you go with a intermedit method.

If you have anyquestion you can IM me on aim Xxv13tVob01xx

you know :) just practice fridrich F2L(CFOP) but don't use it yet primarily for speed solving unless your time is around 1 minute... my record was 51.75 seconds with the basic beginner LBL and my average is around the 1 minute seconds mark :) I agree with andrewvo on his view and the time too even if we said different times ;) ,,

and search through the different F2L method's andrewvo listed and if you love block building then use petrus or was it roux?or heise(sp?) F2L ... I personally like building blocks but I don't use it for speedcubing yet..

I'm fairly sure I am using the same method you are in that 3x3 solve video Andrew. i.e. First cross, fill in all corners, fill in second layer edges, then get a cross on the opposite side of your initial cross, allign corners correctly, and fill all corners in.

I think I'll keep practicing that method until my hands are quick enough for a ~1min time.

@andrew: ima check your tut even though it wasn't at me... =P

@imortal demigod: try doing finger tricks but I can tell you that I have solves around 1 minute basic LBL w/o finger tricks :) (I'll stop bragging now)you can also do like "hand" tricks :)

Oh..............my cube is the same as yours..........!:p It's really stiff!!!!! My thumbs are aching now................

By the way, which cube is better for cubing? (Surely it isn't the hexagonal packaging!!!!!!!)

Anyway, welcome to the rubik's world!:D
