Hi, I just got my Rubik's cube about a month ago and learned the method where after solving F2L and the cross on top you solve the edges, the permeate the corners, then orient the corners (A.K.A) the tutorial by pogobat on youtube. I then learned the keyhole method of solving F2L and my fastest time is about 1:15.

I recently found a new beginners solution on learn2cube.com where after finding the cross on the last layer you solve the entire top side, then orient and permeate the corners, then permeate the edges. Is this method going to reduce my time or is it a waste of my time.

Also, what time should I have before I move on to a more advanced method. And lastly, after I do master the beginner level, what method should I move onto next.

I know this is a lot but any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Welcome! I started early in learning Fridrich, and am still learning full OLL (I'm an algorithmic kind of guy). I started when I hit about 1:15 - 1:30? and it helped me the same. Although I still wonder if I should have started later. I learned basic Intuitive First 2 layers athttp://dougreed.homeunix.com/~doug/f2l/f2l.htm
Check out the the Speedsolving wiki for the most indepth guide on OLL (Turning all the colors on the last layer to face one way) and PLL (Finisher). But that is for later. First look up 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL before doing the 1 look ones. This is my educated opinion on learning Fridrich.

the method you describe will definitely reduce your time but i would recommend learning RobH0269's method on youtube first then moving on to 2-look oll and 2-look pll on lancetheblueknight's channel and that will bring your times down substantially. Thats what I did anyway and i get sub 30-ish times now

good luck :D

Like many others, my main introduction to speedcubing was through badmephisto. All of his tutorials are absolutely excellent, here's a link to his channel:

I think you should start by watching this video, which provides a good overview of speedcubing and some good advice for what to learn next:

Hope that helped!

+1 to this post, badmephisto's videos are excellent. Make sure you watch the cross video as well, I learned F2L/ 2-Look OLL/PLL however, now I have to learn the cross in relative position so, avoid that mistake and learn the cross in relative position starting out, this will save you time later on and lead nicely into F2L and extended cross.

Where to begin? If you understand the cross build, start with the advanced cross video. Then watch his F2L for beginners and the 2-Look OLL/PLL. Once you get faster, the advanced F2L video will help. Then, you can move to full OLL/PLL (some use 2-Look OLL and learn full PLL). Of course, do not rule out the other methods as well, some may work for you while others will not however, you can learn something from all of them.

I hope this helps, and expect your times to slow when learning F2L, it is normal, eventually they will improve. Lastly, once you understand F2L, make sure you work on look ahead. The reason I am even posting is to help you avoid the mistakes I made!
