Hello! I'm new and need help with F2L

hey people i wanted to know if i'm fast enough using fridrich's method. so here i go:-
I've been cubing from about the beginning of march 2013( today is 21 may 2013)
with a rubiks brand cube non tensioned non lubed, i average 47 or 48, with a non lucky pb of 35 seconds.
i know about 10-12 f2l cases- half alg and half intuitive
plus i know full 2 look oll and in all 25-30 olls
i know 18 pll cases (only g perms are left,3 of them)
my lookahead is good, fingertricks are good ( using a dayan they could be better) and i have good recognition of oll and pll cases.
i can do all the f2l cases, but by first changing them ina case i know.
i' want to know how can i get sub 40 now?
i've ordered 3 dayan cubes from fasttech, so when they are shipped i'll update my avrg.
how can i get faster and am i fast enough?
and hey, i'm just 12 years old. do i have a good cubing future?
and any tips for the cubing competition at my school by the cubing club ( luckily, the dayan would be shipped on time.i can easily win that, cuz there are only 2 guys faster than me in my grade: 1 has avg 45 and other has 38
thanks in advance.
Alright well I'm 11 (IMO it doesn't matter how old you are, as long as you keep going.) and I avg 25 with CFOP (Fridrich) I also use ZZ and Roux. I don't think you need to learn F2L with algorithms. I also don't know any G perms lol.

I'm pretty similar and was wondering if anyone could give me some help. I average approx. 23 sec with a guhong 2, I practice f2l and lookahead furiously. I know full fridrich with full oll and pll and my f2l takes about 17 sec. I practice loads but my times have stopped dropping and I have been stuck at 23 for a month

time your cross also.
since F2L should take approximately 30 moves or so (excluding cross) then doing it in 17 sec (-2 second cross) would then be 2 tps.
if you think your tps during f2l is more than 2, then you can easily improve it with improving your look ahead.

for specific F2L tips, i can give you some (some might be obvious)
- look for a corner rather than an edge, unless you know where the corner is (like if it's already slotted)
- reduce "half" cube rotations, as in don't physically move the cube in your hands to try to look for pieces. often you should be able to infer what a piece is without seeing all of its colours.
- learn special cases. i don't mean like Jeff2L, but just cases where, for example, a corner is slotted wrong and the edge is in the top layer. not including AUF, you should be able to always take out the corner in 3 moves and insert it in 3 moves. same goes for slotted edges with its corner on top. take out in 3 moves, insert in 3 moves (can't always be done, but usually can). basic stuff like this + quick recognition from a bunch of different angles will help.
- of course, inserting pairs into the B face, without rotating or extra looking around.
- recognizing edge orientation so you know when you need to rotate.
- finding your first pair during inspection, or looking ahead to it while doing the cross.
- predicting where a certain piece will end up after you insert your current pair. this is like advanced tracking, it comes with experience. although sometimes you have to know where it'll end up half way through, and start tracking it from there.
- learning faster ways to do certain cases when other slots are not solved. some common examples include:
R U' R' U R' U' R to insert to BR slot while breaking FR slot
D R U' R' D' to insert an edge (keyhole, affects FLD corner)
R2 U' R' U R2 to insert an edge (breaks BR slot; otherwise does the same case as the alg above)

ok that's actually a lot and im out of ideas for now LOL.

good job! when i was 11, my average was 45, pb 30, and i didn't know what a CFOP was (nor zz/roux)
