Hi guys,

My name is Hannah and I've just joined this community. I've also just started to learn how to cube to tick an item off my bucket list :). I got a 3x3x3 cube last Thursday night and started learning the beginners method - took me about 30 minutes following some instructions written in chinese that came with my cube! But I changed my mind on Saturday night and started again learning Fridrich (thought I might as well learn something I can get faster at from the get go, none of this baby steps business, haha). So I've been furiously memorising algorithms since Sat night, and last night (Tuesday) I finally solved the whole thing from memory.

My first time doing it from memory about 7 mins, but I did it again last night shortly after at 3 mins 20s, and today I did 2 mins 28s. So that's where I'm at, I'm not a teenager so my brain is not that quick I don't think! But I'm hoping I can get down to under a minute in the not toooooo distant future.

I'm not sure how big the cubing community is in New Zealand, so if you're from here, say hi!

I'm also not sure how many females or adults there are on here, but hi I'm both of those too!

Look forward to chatting with you all :)

Hannah

Wow! That's impressive. I've been cubing for a few years now and I've been procrastinating about learning blindfolded for a long time. 2min 28 is very good for a few days (I think). What tutorial did you learn from?

Well, I'm a New Zealander (living in Melbourne like a true traitor), and I guess, according to my age I'm an adult. I'm not a female but you can't have everything in life.

Whereabouts do you live?

I think you've misinterpreted "solving from memory" (i.e. solving without looking at an alg sheet) as "solving blindfolded". I could be wrong though.

Yeah that's what I meant by from memory, I'm a long way from doing it blindfolded! I'm terrible at looking ahead so I usually struggle just with getting the white cross without having to find each piece each time, yargh. I reckon I'll cut a good minute off just by not having to pause in between trying to remember which algorithm goes with which case. I know them all, but they take a while to come out when I'm solving!

I am from Taranaki here in NZ :) And all good, don't really care about gender I was just curious as YouTube is pretty dude (and youth)-heavy when it comes to cubing!

In bld you solve one piece at a time. You don't memorize the whole solve in a normal method.

Whoops :). But still, it took me like a month to finally learn the A perm. I knew all the other steps except for the A perm (in beginner's method). And spent two years doing keyhole. Before finally learning F2L.

Oh you're just down the road. You should totally try to get to the Hamilton comp to meet the crew (although I won't be there). It's just good to hang out and meet like-minded people (if you're like-minded >.<). At least if you find it isn't your sort of thing you can quit before you get super addicted :p

And yes, as a general statement you're right about the young and male thing.

Obtw that statement about me not being a female was just me trying to make a joke :p

Hey, I know your intro is a bit old now but ...

I am from Taranaki here in NZ :)

I'm from the 'Naki too! As you probably know, I don't really see any other cubers round these here parts :)

I have been cubing about a year now, but am still too slow - life just gets in the way (e.g kids)! I haven't posted here too much (I do a bit more on the r/cubers sub-reddit); however have recently been doing the 'Race to Sub 30'.

Hey! Nice to meet you :) We have a NP cubers facebook page which, although still in its infancy, we are hoping to use to get a bit of a community going: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1571312349756101/?fref=ts

Me and one other person are hoping to organise a meet up this month or something. There's not a ton of us around, but the school I taught at last year the kids all went through a massive phase of it so hoping to put the word of the facebook group out there to schools once the term starts. Are you in NP?

Believe it or not, but I'm one of the few people on earth still not on facebook! But once I'm home from work, I'll check out the link on the Mrs' FB account. I'd definitely be keen for a meetup - I made a New Years resolution to get to my first cubing comp this year!

I currently use CFOP, 2 look OLL, full PLL. Am averaging about 32secs, PB 21.99. Trying to break my 30sec wall. :)

Hey hey, another NZ cuber here, from Rotorua! :D

I was reading through this and was curious as to how much you've improved? ^_^

Anyway, I hope to see you at some future competitions! I was supposed to go to Nats but work wouldn't allow me the time off throughout December >.< Ah well.
