I'm Chad, 41 years old. A couple of recent threads about cubers over 40 prompted me to join the forum. I started 2-3 years ago when I saw a few cubing stories in the news and decided I should at least know how to solve one. I actually managed to find my cube from when I was a kid, but it was in very bad shape. Two pieces were broken, so I glued colored paper in their place. I learned the beginner's method and obviously had some very slow times, but I enjoyed it, so I eventually bought some speed cubes and decided to try to get faster.

My original goal was just to average under 1 minute, but like everybody else here, once I achieved my goal, I still wanted to get faster. I'm still slow compared to others. Typical average is around 25 seconds. So that's my story. I also want to say that I find what the top cubers do (in all events) to be absolutely incredible. Some of the things don't seem humanly possible. That's another thing that has kept me interested, just watching the amazing solves of others.

Here's my personal bests (3x3 and blind are only thing I practice)--
3x3 single--13.14, avg5--20.24, avg12--22.93, avg50--24.54
1-hand--53.46
4x4--2:26.95
bld--2:30.26
Mbld--3/3 23:02

I'm glad that I'm not alone. hahaha. I'm 45 and just recently pick up cubing about 1 month. My PB is 54sec with 2 look OLL and PLL. Cubing is fun and get a lot of my working time from the office. :D

I hope to get some advice here in this forum.

Welcome! I'm 43 and recently started learning Roux (I had done Beginner's Method once before but then lost interest). Right now I'd be happy to average 25 seconds but it's going to take a lot more work yet... Mostly right now I'm just drilling L/R block building to improve on that.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I've been lurking in the forums for a while before joining. It looks like a very friendly and supportive group of people.

Blind is my best event relatively speaking, but I'm still far from being good at it. The 2:30 single is my PB, a normal solve is more like 3:30. Roughly 2:00 memo and 1:30 execution. I'm still using OP corners/edges and have an inefficient memo method, so there's room for improvement. I'd like to get down to 1:00/1:00 splits, and that would probably be about my limit.

I'm happy with my multiblind progress. I did some solves about a year ago, and started again about a month ago. I've tried 3 cubes three times. Got 3/3 the first try, then 0/3 and 2/3 (both ~16 minutes). My recent attempts at 2 cubes have been terrible however. I think I had 11 straight failures before getting a success my last attempt. I'll try 4 cubes today or tomorrow and post my results in the multiblind thread.

Welcome to the forums and welcome to the old age club :tu

Indeed, your BLD looks impressive. I only have 2 successes about 3 years ago so it is something I really want to start trying to get back into.

I too am highly motivated by watching cubers of all ages. I tend to get a great average after watching a comp finals on YouTube :)

Keep practicing and hopefully try and get to a comp to compete too and if you need any help, there are plenty of helpful souls around.

Hi, I'll be hitting 34 in a couple days. About two months ago I decided to finally learn how to solve my 3x3. Solves usually run between 1:10 and 1:45 on basic beginner's method alone, and am fairly consistent on the lower end of that with 4LLL. I working on F2L pairs now, and this is of course in the short term making my times slower. Realistically, my only goal is to get under 45 seconds. It absolutely amazes me how fast you all are. :)

I have a Skewb and Pyraminx coming soon and can't wait to try those out.
