Hello, fellow speedsolvers! Pleased to meet you. My name is David Smith, and I hope to be a positive contributor to the community. :)

I am 23 and am a college student majoring in mathematics and physics, living in Crofton, Maryland. My interests include speedcubing, blindfold cubing, mathematics, physics, chess, retrograde analysis (a unique type of chess problem), computer programming, and math, logic, and disentanglement puzzles. I average around a minute on the standard cube, and have solved the cube blindfolded about 10 times. I am also interested in the mathematics of the Rubik's Cube.

One of the reasons I wanted to join this group is to share a mathematical result I found for the Rubik's Cube, which is an expansion of the work done by Chris Hardwick on the number of permutations of the n x n x n cube. I corresponded with him briefly about his formulas some years ago. I hope my discovery will be of interest to some of the members of the community, even if only in a minor way. I will post my findings in the Puzzle Theory section in a bit, I don't want to post it immediately after introducing myself. I hope my sharing of this discovery does not seem inappropriate, and I apologize in advance if this is the case. I was just hoping to share this, as I believe it might be of some value.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting you, and thank you for reading my introduction. :)

David

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I guess I'll go ahead and post my cube discovery in the Puzzle Theory section. I'm glad to see there is already some interest in it! :)

Welcome, David!
I'm in Baltimore, MD. Which college do you go to?
Your topic in the puzzle theory section is quite fascinating. I'll have to read it all when I have the time.

Thanks for the additional welcomes! fanwuq, thanks for the positive comments and for your intent to read my work (but of course there is no pressure, please only read it if you want to). :) I don't believe anyone has read my 4D cube paper, so no worries about that!

I am currently attending Anne Arundel Community College, and hope to transfer to the University of Maryland eventually. I have only just recently begun college, it has taken me longer than most people for various reasons. So far it is going very well.

Thanks everyone, and I'm sure you will be able to find me in the Puzzle Theory subforum. :)
