Hi there!! :P

My name is Rodrigo and I am from Portugal, I am 16 years old and I am not sure if my English is nice xD. Unfortunately there are no competitions here in my contry - i guess there are not many cubers around here. :(

So, I have like 25 cubes :)

  • 4 3x3x3 speedcubes (1 hayans memory, 1 zhanchi, 1 guhong, and 1 lunhui or whatever it is called xD)
  • 1 3x3x3 rubik's block
  • 1 4 colored 3x3x3
  • 1 void cube
  • 2 2x2, 1 4x4, 1 5x5, 1 6x6, 1 7x7 and so on :P
  • some other funny twisty puzzles

In speedcubing I only practise the 3x3 event (i dont have decent big cubes). My avareges are about 20 seconds and I am a normal CFOP user (still learning full OLL).

I have some problems in look ahead though, i guess that i get too nervous when solving fast and i dont really think well. However when i go slow, i get some pretty decent solves, i guess :t

Ohh, i have one question, not sure if i should ask it here, but after some research i havent found what i've been looking for, so here it goes:

What methods are based on the normal CFOP? I mean, i know that after the F2L the normal thing to do is OLL and PLL but i have heard some new substeps that force OLL and PLL skips in reconstructions and so. but i dont really get it. I have heard something called edge cotrol partial (?).

I would really appreciate that someone could give me a brief review over those substeps and give me alg's links to check it out :)

Whatelse can I say? I am a metalhead :)

Welcome!
Partial edge control involves inserting the last f2l pair in a way that avoids the "dot" (0 edges oriented) cases. There are many many alg sets that may make some part of last layer easier/more likely to get skipped/etc etc. You can look in the SS wiki for explanations and algs. For now, I recommend just sticking with OLL and PLL.
I recommend checking out some other methods including ZZ, Roux, or even Petrus. Even if you end up sticking with CFOP as your main method, techniques from other methods can help you understand how the cube works. Using other methods also forces you to solve from different perspectives - which is fun and probably helpful in some way.
Good luck.

thanks for your replies!
Yes, i will definitly look up for ZZ method, roux and petrus and even blindfolded. I believe its gonna help me, specially in the intuitive steps such as the cross or even F2L somehow :D

I use partial edge control, which is orienting edges while doing the last Corner-edge pair. It's intuitive.

Welcome! The most basic way to describe partial edge control is using different types of last slot insertions to orient 2 or 4 of the edges. It involves using a sledgehammer (R' F R F', or F R' F' R depending on case) to insert a pair rather than the normal way, and orients some edges in the process.
