When doing FMC with DR, it's not uncommon to get a scramble with lot's of EO in 4-5 but only one EO in 3, or a scramble with lots of EO in 3-4 with a 2 move EO available. For scrambles like these, you shouldn't limit yourself to just checking one move continuations from the shortest EO even though it's faster than checking two move continuations as it's possible you're leaving a lot of potentially promising DR's on the table

In this extremely brief guide, I'm going to cover the techniques I either personally use or at least know about for finding +2 to DR-XCXE from an EO. Other techniques may be possible, but these are the only one's I'm personally aware of. If requested, I could provide some examples from attempts I've done in the past showcasing each of these techniques (moreso 2 and 3 since 1 is just normal stuff).

1 - Standard checking + NISSing the EO

This method is pretty straight forward; do the EO on whatever side of the scramble it's on, check all 2 move continuations for nice DR triggers, switch, do the same thing & you're done. This covers the majority of possible +2 extensions into DR-XCXE from an EO

2 - Premove abuse

This technique works best on short linear EO's since it cuts the number of premoves you need to check in half (4 instead of 8), and the way it works is also relatively simple. Say you have an EO on inverse like (U L2 F) and the scramble looks like it demands DR-XCXE in 5; one thing you can try is doing R, L, U, and D as premoves before re-entering the inverse scramble, and then check the 3 move EO while treating it like a 4 move EO on the relevant axis. Sometimes this style of checking can be too slow to be worth it depending on the type of scramble, but in cases where you can combine premove abuse on both a 3 move EO along with lots of 4 move EO's it's a very strong technique!

3 - RLFB abuse

This technique is essentially just an application of how to make 8C8E recognition easier which I outline in this guide

One thing you could try on both sides of a short EO is this 4 move sequence to see if it gives a promising enough DR-XCXE. While initially you're adding 4 moves to the EO, you're really only adding 2 since you can subtract these later if you happen to find a nice DR using this trick. While this strategy also poses some time management issues, the payoff from getting a DR with this technique feels quite high to be, at least intuitively. This is because you'd end up with a DR that ends with some sort of U F B set of moves which can allow for nicer than normal finishes from DR!
