On a lot of algorithm sheets, i see d turns being used rather than U (y')

how do you execute this dbl layer down? Or do you even use it? Im finding it quite cumbersome

Left pointer on UBL
Left thumb on UFL

Right pointer on UBR
Right tumb on UFR

Move d and d' and d2 using middle finger.

I don't understand what you mean... Could you explain it more clearly? Then maybe I could answer your question.

For many f2l algorithms....many people use DOUBLE SLICE DOWN turns rather than U (y')

and im having trouble utilizing them

I think it's uncomfortable to do that to be honestly. I just use the left hand holding in U layer, and use rigth hand to move the d layer.
