What can I do to get sub5 on 2x2 and sub20 on 3x3? (My 2x2 is sub10 and 3x3 is sub 40)

Should I learn and main zb method?
Or just learn ZBLS/ZBLL?

Should I learn and main APB?

Should I learn 1 look oll?(I'm almost done with one look pll)

Should I learn useful LS methods?(WV, SV, ZBLS ETC)

1. 2x2 - Learn Ortega Method very well
2. 3x3 - Learn CFOP and Full PLL within that, but make sure your F2L and Cross are very good. @gsingh just put a course together to help with this
3. Don’t do any of the ZB stuff, definitely not yet
4. Sorry, don’t know what it is (if I search it up I dont think I’ll be the right person to help you)
5. PLL, then work on F2L and look ahead, OLL won’t help yet
6. Not yet

I want to stress that learning more algorithms will not translate into large improvements in time. Past 4LLL, there’s no huge time saves to be had in algorithm learning. PLL saves you 1-2 seconds on average, and OLL less than that. They’re really nice boosts at sub-25, 20, 15, etc., but at 40 seconds they are far from required. You can still learn them early if you’d like, but don’t expect crazy time drops from them. Beyond OLL and PLL, the time drops get even less. Even ZBLL doesn’t save any time if you aren’t solid on recognition, which is hard to have at your speed. I’d also like to say that for more specific information, feel free to ask more specific questions.

[3x3] If you don’t already, learn and use CFOP. Practice F2L incessantly to improve it and reduce stuttering on trying to remember how to do each case. Make sure you use at least 4LLL, and full PLL is helpful. The main tool for improvement at that speed is just doing more solves.

[2x2] If you haven’t already, learn and switch to Ortega. You’ll improve at 2x2 quite a bit just from improving at 3x3, but learn/practice planning out your entire first face in inspection and making your face as efficiently as possible. Other than that it’s a lot of solve spamming.

Should I learn and main zb method?
Or just learn ZBLS/ZBLL?

The ZB method is the same as CFOP except that you use ZBLS for the last F2L pair and then ZBLL to complete the last layer in one alg. ZBLL is only worthwhile at well below the sub-10 mark, but some people learn it because they enjoy learning algs (and it’s quite impressive). At the very least complete full PLL and OLL first. Then learn full COLL and probably some other sets/subsets (parts of WV, for example). You should also probably be at least sub-20 for it to not be detrimental, but that’s a case-by-case basis. ZB/ZBLL is far from required and isn’t even that helpful though.

Should I learn and main APB?

Up to you! It’s a fun and interesting method, so I’d say you should do some research and see if you like it. Like with any non-standard method, you’ll find a lot less resources on it than with CFOP, which means it can be more difficult to make progress with, but it’s completely your choice. It is not objectively better than CFOP though.

Should I learn 1 look oll?(I'm almost done with one look pll)

If you continue to use CFOP, then at some point, yes. At your speed it may be worthwhile to put it off until around the sub-20 mark (I didn’t learn it until around the 15 second mark), but if you really love learning algs, go for it. One thing I cannot stress the importance of enough is that you must get your fingertricks right. It’s just as important to learn how to do the moves as it is to learn the moves themselves with an alg. Lookup videos online of tutorials of how to do the alg. It’s worth learning good algs with good fingertricks now, as then you don’t have to deal with hundreds/thousands of solves worth of muscle memory later on down the line.

Should I learn useful LS methods?(WV, SV, ZBLS ETC)

All of these sets have some useful algs, but many are just too slow to be worthwhile. Once you’ve learned PLL and maybe after OLL as well, you could look into which parts of these sets are worth using and learning (WV especially has some nice cases). If you’re looking for further alg learning after OLL and PLL, I’d recommend trying out COLL. But there’s no purpose to learning these now.
