Even cubic 7x7 question

If you look at a 6x6 carefully, you will see that the outer layer cubies are quite a bit bigger than the others.

I'm pretty sure an "even" cubic 7x7 is possible, but there would have to overlapping. Tony Fisher made an "even" cubic 6x6, but I can't seem to find the post on TwistyPuzzles. Maybe he removed it? I searched through his posts from June 2008, through the next 12 months, but didn't see a picture.

But anyway, he simply took a V-cube 6 & sanded down the sides until all the layers were all equal. As a result, the center-edges, (the pieces that are always popping out) looked like there were carved down. Those carves then made room for the corner stalks to stick out.

So it is a possible to make an "even" cubic 7x7, its just that the corner stocks would stick out at 45° turns & those centers would look weird.

Yes it can be cubic, however it would have a indent effect o the second layer from the top layer to allow room for the corner stalks

It is possible and has been made.
Few pictured exist of it and it was never truely finished.
What it takes is flexing inner layers.
You are talking about the same problem that occurs on a 3x3x1, yet we are all very aware that a 3x3x1 is possible.

Video or it didn't happen.;)

Martian for error? :D

And I didn't really think of it at first (the rest of you probably did, though), because that image I posted highlights the edges instead of the corners, which makes it look like the reason it can't be done is because 4 edges will be completely exposed during any turn. However, a similar effect (I think) can be achieved by removing corners from a smaller order cube, which doesn't make it fly into a million pieces, although it is a little bit more fragile.

I'm not sure why they highlight the edges. It looks to me (now, at least) like the reason it's impossible is because during any turn, 4 corners are going to be completely outside of the other layers, meaning that there can be no mechanism or arm from inside the cube connected to the corner piece (although I guess you could have something worked out with the two adjacent edges, I'm not sure how practical/possible that is.)

Supposing that you COULD find some way to have that corner attached to either/both of those edges in a way that wouldn't restrict normal movement of the rest of the cube, you could probably make a cubic 7x7x7.
