Does putting Water in your Cube Affect the Tension?

So I had an RS3M which was totally ruined because I put water in it. I tried removing the screws and cleaning everything up a bit but I can't seem to replicate the default tension. So does water really effect the screws or can I just put it back in the default tension?
if you had the water in there for awhile, the water may have rusted the screws which would result in the tensions being uneven.

The surface tension of the water interacts with the tension of the cube such that it creates a mutual bond that strengthens the overall tension, making the total tension greater than the sum of its parts. It is an example of quantum entanglement, except in this case the interactions are stronger the closer the water is to the cube.

Science.
