my cubing station is a computer desk. it has a laptop, with a speedstack timer and mat in front of it. i have all main cubes out on the desk and all of my meh puzzles are either displayed elsewhere in the room(for what i have stands for) or they organized in baskets on the shelves above the computer. i have a basket for small cubes, one for 'other puzzles' and one for big cubes. i also have a drawer of lube, for easy access in case i have a puzzle that is sucking. i also store a lot of cubing accessories in another basket, stickers, screwdrivers, spare hardware sets, extra caps and things that sometimes come with puzzles, sticker removing and application supplies. if i put away my stackmat and main cubes (which i have a basket for, but they always end up all over the place anyway), it looks just like a small organized office. just like how i like it. it also has ADEQUATE bright white lighting from many angles.
some advice,
-organize
-white lighting
-COMFY but sturdy chair (no layzboy recliners! LOL)
-make sure you have a place to put away cubes you arent using.
dual moniters are coming into my workstation soon, because of the heavy reliance on multitasking resources/timers/irc etc. on the pc.
