Just wanted to make a thread dedicated to mental health stuff. Cubing has had an huge positive impact on my mental health (and my life in general) over the last 2 years and kinda just wanted to hear about everyone else's experiences. Feel free to share your stories, tips, and anything else you feel is relevant !! Much love <3

I definitely feel like cubing makes me more social, sharing what I know and stuff. I also think it makes me act a lot wackier for some reason xD

I do cube around 15-20 minutes a day in average and started last year. Got new it helps a lot in getting down, relaxing and contemplating the day.

It actually also helps if something bothers me a lot to calm down. For me it has been a great pressure Ventil to be honest.

When I start a hobby or something else, I always become too obsessed with it. This happens always, with everything. But cubing was the first one I could share with someone.
And sometimes it's really relaxing.
So cubing is approved 👍

Cubing converted me into an extrovert :D

Most of my hobbies never lasted this long but cubing did which is pretty surprising to me tbh. Cubing takes my frustrations out and is relaxing. Most importantly, I got a friendly community that shares my hobby!! I can say that cubing is the best thing that happened to me :p.

Hi guys, my 2 cents: as an older cuber, it is not really a hobby I can share with friends, so it's a personal thing. But thanks to internet, I somehow feel I'm part of a community, which is cool. Besides that, as I've been through some difficult times during the last 2 years (not only due to Covid crisis), cubing really helps when I feel my mind is on a slippery slope, I do some timed solves and it focuses my thoughts and drives sadness away.

Hi all, I just wanted to say that cubing was a big part of my childhood, I made two long-term friends in highschool through the hobby and my friend group spent many lunches bonding over it. Recently I've picked it up again and have started writing Rust (programming language) utilities for cubing.

I wrote my first GUI app with sdl2 to make a timer, I implemented IDA* to search for algorithms, and I learned WAY more about gatt and bluetooth in general than I needed to work with a Moyu Weilong AI.

I think cubing gave a lot of us concrete proof that we could improve if we tried hard, and I know I wouldn't be where I am without it.

Sorry for the sap story, I just had this realisation today when I found some old cubes so it's fresh in my mind.

Stay well everyone ☺️.

For me it's less the cubing and more the community. For most of the lockdown I was very active in the Geometry Dash community (yeah, remember that game? No? Oh ok) and a good portion of the community was very toxic. Many people were just mad at one another for literally liking a level or not. Homophobia/transphobia, racism, mocking George Floyd's death, you name it. Just a massive hellhole in general. And a scarily high amount of people were
exposed for pedophilia and rape
. Transitioning to the cubing community has been much better for me, with all the positivity and overall upbeat vibe from everyone has made me feel a lot better. So I guess it's lucky J Perm showed up in my recommended for literally no reason, eh?

Edit: Why'd the spoiler do that

And I thought Minecraft was toxic.

Before cubing, I was too addicted to FNAF. It wasn't really healthy to me. 2 years later in my journey, I don't even care about the game.
Cubing really takes time to pursue, but it also has helped shape my mind into a way that I can stay smart.
That's good to hear, has cubing helped you even more, since then?

Cubing personally helped me overcome my guilt for not studying smartly for the entrance exams.
