I don’t understand how the cubicle makes you pay so much for a cube that is serviced by them…

realistically I have nothing against them I love they company and they do good work but wouldn’t it be more smart to buy all the lubes in 3cc bottles and just buy the cube all together?? Cause one’s a serviced cube dries up or needs to be clean you flushed your money. It is professionally done and feels good out of box from them but like it’s a one time thing then it’s gone.

this is my opinion feel free to tear it up I have accepted my terrible pov

Exactly what I always thought. I have never ordered a set-up cube though so little do I know.

Actually ordered one once, it was a proshop tenyun v2 and it came in dry as bone... It was pretty disappointing but they refunded the cost of the proshop setup and I just set it up myself. So they got brownie points for that

It's marketing! They are after all a retail establishment. Adding the word "professional" or the name of a well known person in the industry to a product increases interest and desire for many people. In our situation, experienced solvers, don't see that as much of a draw because we've each developed our own preferences for lubrication and setup. However, Little Johnny, just barely sub two minutes on his Rubik's 3x3 sees those words and is instantly drawn to them because they make the puzzle sound better, higher quality, and ready to go out of the box. Do you really think those basketball shoes would have been as successful had they not had Michael Jordan's name on them? Same basic idea.

You’re paying the extra cost to have a person set up the cube for the convenience of not having to set up the cube yourself. It’s pretty useful if you hate setting up cubes or if you’re a newer cuber who’s not sure of themselves and doesn’t want to do it. For most cubers I’d say it isn’t worth it though

While on the topic of clever marketing on The Cubicles part:

I've been to a couple competitions in which The Cubicle is vending at a table in the back. They have all the sample cubes laid out on the table for folks to try them out before purchasing. Whenever someone asks "What's in here?" or "How is this set up?" Or anything of the sort, they say "That's just out of the box I think." When the cube is very clearly set up. It leads people to believe it's just a good cube, so they buy it. And then what do you know, it's not as good, and they have to spend more money on The Cubicle (buying lubricants and whatnot) to achieve the same feel.
And they can escape any legal liability for false advertising because they specified that they weren't sure when they said "Out of the box, *I think*"

i bought a moyu aochuang 5x5 and paid the extra $5 for the lube service. it actually arrived worse than any other cube, to the point where i almost returned it. they used some really thick lube and it felt slow. i cleaned it out and added some dnm-37 after and then it was good again
