i know,i know, there are many threads like this, but i just want to know what would be best with what i have....
well, i have a store-bought 3x3, a white type A 3x3, and a transparent blue type C 3x3. what do you think the best hybrid would be with those? any suggestions for future buys?:D

I feel that they are overrated. Some people have success with rubik's DIY core with type b cubies. From this forum the best seems to be type A with type D cubies.

put the store bought cubies on your white type a.

also, buy a rubik's diy/type b and have some fun :D

EDIT: @waffle, i have a type b core with rubik's cubies and it's quite simply one of the best cubes i've ever had.

In what way are they overrated? You mean to say Type A core with D frame and cubies. That's an old hybrid. I get the feeling that not many use this hybrid these days.

If you know that there are other threads, wouldn't it be best to first check out those threads and look for hybrids that you can make? You have a transparent blue C. That means you won't be able to use it's centerpieces or it's cubies unless you want to end up with an ugly cube. I would stick to the storebought and break it in. If not you can try using storebought cubies on A-frame.

actually, the transparent cubies and type A white core looks cool...
it looks like ice with the white core :p

Why don't you try them by yourself? You don't have 100 cubes so that it will be impossible. You have 3 cubes...you can try all possibilities and let us now which is the best in an already existing thread.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but just to let you know: I'm about to hijack your thread.

I have:

-White Type A (Old/original)
-White Rubik's DIY
-Black Rubik's DIY

To people who have made hybrids with just these (or similar) or to those who feel they have enough knowledge to contribute, what do you recommend?

@1$0: Frame = Core and Centers, right?

EDIT: I tried out the Type A frame with the White Rubik's DIY cubies. It might not have been right because the screws were pretty tight, so I'm trying again..

yes thats what frame means.
and once again, rubiks pieces on type a core.

WHITE TYPE A FRAME with WHITE RUBIK'S DIY CUBIES

Decent cube, nice speed, decent corner cutting. It just pops too much at tensions that it give it good speed.

WHITE RUBIK'S DIY FRAME with WITH TYPE A CUBIES

:O !!! This hybrid is nice! The only set back is decent corner cutting. It's not at all bad, but I've seen better. It's very fast, and does not pop at looser tension!

This could be my main speedcube for now, but I'm not sure if it's better than a standalone White Rubik's DIY. If it not better, it's just as good.

This looks like the reason why Rubik's DIY cores or frames are so good. :)
So I'm undoing the switch for now...

Rubik's DIY just as good as Hybrid: Rubik's DIY frame + Old A cubies
(all are white)

I prefer White Rubik's DIY or White Type A, because it can go be much more loose without popping.

I thought my Type A was fine at it's current tension (and it was), but when i recently bought my Rubik's DIY and tried, it made my Type A looks somewhat stiff.

Type A is an awesome cube, which is why I bought, I just prefer Rubik's DIYs.
Type A's do cut corners better though. :)

okay, i went through a few trials with the cubes...
type c core with type a cubies is killer for me... but i need a white type c to do that....

I've been getting quite a bit of joy out of my c4u core + C cubies. The c4u core provides a level of flexibility and corner-cutting, while the C cubies are light and easy to push around. It's just a really nice combination. I couldn't tell you why the original c4u cubies don't cut as well, but they don't. Maybe they're larger.

Out of curiosity, I stuck those same C cubies into an A core to see what it was like. The oddest thing happened: It was uncomfortably tight AND it popped! A seeming contradiction that has me wondering just what it is that makes a cube great. It's puzzling...it is as if the A core is the cause of the A's explosive popping properties. Perhaps the A core bends a little, allowing the cubies to escape? I dunno...that was just weird. And terrible.
