Umm, well, I'm not that interested in travel arrangements, personally, because my family is taking a week's vacation spread around the competition, so we won't be able to travel with anyone else (and our van won't have any extra room, so we won't be able to pick anyone up either), but since Erik did the Danish Open thread this way, I figured I should do the same.

What hotels are people planning on using for Chattahoochee? It looks like the closest hotels to the high school are a couple of miles away. I'm about to start booking for our vacation, so I need to decide on a hotel soon.

ohhh man I should start actually thinking about this...
Well I will be driving my car from Gainesville Florida, I don't know if I'll have room or not, there are a few cubers around here who aren't quite as fast as me 2H (and certainly not OH) but they may or may not come.
As for a place to stay idk... we should all pick the same hotel to stay at.

If I were you, I would stay in a hostel and not a hotel. Hostels aren't as comfortabel, but they are a lot more fun, cheaper and you can probably share a room with about 6 people.

Hostels are for travellers and adventurers
Hotels are for businessmen and tourists

There generally aren't that many hostels in the USA except in bigger cities (with some exceptions, of course). There are other somewhat similar options, though, like bed and breakfasts (although they're generally rather expensive). Since we're bringing 3 small kids, most of those are also out for us, unfortunately (but again there are some exceptions).

For Alpharetta GA, I suspect we're stuck with a hotel/motel as pretty much our only option. But if anyone knows of a better alternative, please let me know!

And yes, Lofty, I think it would be great if we could stay in the same place, which is why I started this thread!

My favorite when I visited the US (Chicago, New York, Niagra Falls): http://www.hiusa.org/

And hostels + young children is indeed not the best combination.

I always thought motels where used for rendez-vouz and 1-hour-visits :)

Motels get mostly:
Hookers
Homeless who manage to get $15 or so
Hookers
People who can't afford a hotel
Hookers
People who are going cross country, and need a place for one night to sleep
Hookers.

At least the ones near me, and ones I've been to.

For the record. I have'nt been for reasons 1,3,5 or 7.
