This is pretty off-topic, but hey, that's what this section is for.

I'd like to learn to do a backflip, for reasons that will be revealed at a later point (Hint: Nov. 15'th).

I'm guessing that some of you have some experience, and can give me some hints as to techniques that may be of interest to me.

I've seen a few youtube video tutorials, and they have been pretty helpful, but I think I'd first like to check here for tips.

Also. I've been thinking about attempting a "Wall Flip" first, as shown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh6MlDoqQRs .
Any thoughts?

Thanks :) ,
Stachu

I can do a backflip using Roux...

anyway, I have no idea how to do one, sorry I can't help, but a kid at my school can do them.

First, I will say that I have not done a backflip yet, but it has been one of my goals for a while.
This is a pretty good tutorial.

You want to have a soft surface and someone experienced to spot you. I have neither. So for now, I'm just practicing single leg squats and vertical jumps. I wouldn't dare to try it myself until I can vertical jump 0.9 meter, which probably wouldn't happen in a long time, if ever.

And be prepared to land on your head and ass alot.

I can't do backflips, perhaps you should try in water first.
just don't lean back straight away, jump as high as you can, then swing back.

My brother does extreme martial arts. So I have some experience doing backflips and stuff like that with him.

What I do is do a swinging kick forward with one leg for backwards momentum (from behind going forward) and take a hard jump with the other. In the air, tuck in by almost grabbing your jumping kick and lean back. You'll land pretty hard so be prepared to absorb the impact.

With an axe webster/loser (frontflip), since you might want to try this out after the backflip, it's the thing but you kick and lean forward. The only difference with an axe webster and loser, is with a loser, the only momentum gained is without doing an axe kick backwards.

Help this kinda helps :D

I don't think I'll try until I can jump at least .9 meters either, but is that with your legs extended, or curled up?

Practise on a trampoline, without bouncing. This is how I practised doing frontflips, and I can land front flips off about 1.5 metre chairs. I can only backy on a trampoline though. (Not as easy as it sounds).

Definitely get a spotter or a professional that can teach you. My track and fields teammate who is a jumper told me that the key to doing a backflip is when you get to the point of being fully upside down is to not be afraid of going all the way. You are more prone to making a mistake if you are scared during the middle. Also definitely practice on a trampoline or padded mats.
