Hi - obviously I'm new here.
I average 17-18 seconds, but I'm not as consistent as I'd like to be.
anyway, my question.
I use intuitive F2L and I can usually get it (and cross) done sub-15.
I'm improving by the day, but I just want to know one thing.
While I know intuitive F2L is best for most people,
is it worth it to learn some of the algorithms just so you can be faster in certain cases?

Thanks for your input.

I'm get roughly the same times as you, and I use intuitive F2L. I went through the cases just to see what the algs do and learnt a bit by doing that. I didn't however actually memorise each one. I did learn 2 algs for 2 hard cases though.

Some F2L cases are very annoying (Flipped edges!)
So I think I will learn that algorithm - does anyone have a good one?

Any F2L alg you need.

I like that algorithm very much, it is very finger-tricky for me. :D

Many people dislike this F2L case and has asked for algorithms. For example, a discussion here, and there's a fanciful fingertrick:

However I generally find it difficult to use F2L algorithms that feel like OLL or PLL cases in speedsolving. Maybe due to lacking the presence of mind to do it in speed and also have to care about cube position in F2L, and lookahead. I still always end up using the simple RUR' or RU'R' :fp.

I keep forgetting I should go learn that empty slot thingy towards the end by Amaury and I will do it.

The thing about algorithms in F2L is that they are more likely to hurt lookahead and rhythm, especially if you end up with your hands in some funny positions like mentioned in 1 of Erik's videos. But if one can perform those algorithms (Breandan Vallance in said case) very naturally without hurting the rhythm then they can be more efficient.

Also algorithms are more difficult to learn in F2L because of the different cube positions. In LL you just need to do U turns to get into the position to apply OLL or PLL but in F2L you need to learn to apply them in different angles or else they are only useful situationally.

...ZZ...

You can still get that case.

Mhm, but only if you don't have any look ahead. I can easily avoid it by doing the 1x2x2 a different way. And I use R' U2 R2 U [R2 U R].

That alg is better for me. I am best with algorithms consisting of R and U, but F is okay too.

And it's only 4 moves, 7 if you want to preserve the back right slot.
