I got my alpha v yesterday and its still feels rough even after i lubed it up. and i also get the occasional small lock up.
any ideas on how to make it better ?

The AV also takes a bit of breaking in, even if you don't mod it. I have an unmodded AV that I HATED for about two weeks. Thought it was the worst money I'd ever spent, but I kept lubing and breaking it in because it was my only cube at the time. After about two weeks it was totally broken in and is still my main cube now. It's fantastic.

Memory mod it and break it in a bit. I also hated my AV when I first got it, but with a little bit of work it's one of the best cubes you can get.

Mine never felt good so I gave it to my little niece and stuck with the FII.

i too have a alpha v and not really that great compared to my guhong cuz it kind of feels slow for me and if i loosen the tension 2 much it will pop as i am a rough cuber. i done the haiyan mod and its 10x better then when i first got it.

Yeah, the first ones made in 2009 were all really good, but most of the ones I have tried now aren't that great. I think they might have changed the manufacturing process. (Or at least Breandan does.)

Agreed. I thought I'm the only one who noticed that. I have 1 or 2 AV models from the first productions and they feel really better than the new one. I think the plastic quality is different.

mines ok.. it just pops way too much... my FII doesnt pop at all... but everyone says thats the opposite. Toad felt my AV before UK open 2010 and it just popped on him too... when i say pop.. i mean explosion of pieces. its never just one its always 5+ which sucks.
however mod it, lube it with some decent lube... and it gets better but still pops far too much for me

I bought another recently and it feels fine no pops and unmoded, tighten it maybe? I know that if my AV is too loose in an effort to combat lockeiness small locks cause pop explosion.
