So I am unaware of any sort of notation for higher order clocks and I am wondering if there is such a thing. If not then I will probably work on a notation :)

lol I think we need better post etiquette not whining. If someone is asking a question or help don’t just say “we don’t need that” “nobody cares” it’s pretty unhelpful
I was joking but I dont think 4x4 clock notation would be useful cause there is no mass produced 4x4 clock

So your saying it would be useful? “I don’t think it would not be useful”. lol

No ones cares but the old notation is definitely more adaptable. UUUMMMDDD (uUuMmmddD u=5 d=-7) is an example for a 4x4 clock but the issue with that is what letters to use for higher orders. You could go through the alphabet. But people already don't like clock why make a higher order one.

So what would that look like exactly? Would the pins look something like this where O= pin up and - is pin down
- O -
O - -
- - O

and then you would turn the DR wheel (since it's the only one adjacent to a pin that is up) 5 (is that to the 5 position or just turning it 5?) and then turn any other wheel (since they are all down) -7 (would this just be the same as 5?).

Sorry for all the questions but this seems like this might be the first helpful comment :)

I've seen someone on this site not too long ago selling a 3D printed 4x4 clock, so saying there is no interest in one is quite a foolish statement. I have found no results on google, so you might just have to invent it yourself.

these are a few links I found by googling it as well as a lot of pictures. I already ordered one (link is the second one) so I will not need to invent (or make one, although that might be a fun project)

UUdd u=3 d=-2 dUdU u=-5,d=5 is an example of old notation. So UUUUddUdU U=3,d=-5, each U or d tells you which one is up or down. The first U is upper left, then the second is upper right, third is lower left and fourth is lower right. Then u=3 and d=4 it how many hours to turn the dials with up pins or down pins. For old notation you need to figure out a pin order. For UUUUUUUUU so you know what pins are up and what are down. Going from left to right then down is best.

I forgot how old notation worked.

So if the pins were labeled 1-9 on the 4x4 clock going left to right then down
Then something like ddUUUdUUd u=4, d=6 would be putting up pins 3,4,7 and 8 then doing a 4 with those and then doing a 6 with the pins that are down 1,2,5,6,9?
