I currently average around 15 seconds using R U R' and similar intuitive moves for the first layer, then OLL and PLL. Should I learn the Ortega method now? I'm not too familiar with 2x2 methods, I hope someone can guide me in the right direction. I can solve a 3x3 40 seconds on avg using 2 look OLL+PLL if that helps.

You shouldn't really think twice about learning Ortega, it's not like it's a huge project, it's really easy and fast to learn. If you already know OLL, then all you need to learn are the PBL (Permute Both Layers) cases, which are very short, and pretty intuitive.

I'm going to learn it! It looked much more difficult a few month ago.
Why is there more to learn for method 2 than method 3 (aka Ortega)?

I used Rubikscube.info to learn Ortega. I like their guide as it is much cleaner and it also has a description of solving the edges if you just want to learn another 3x3x3 method. I recommend learning the whole thing as it is actually pretty fun to do when you are bored.

Why is a cube not round? Why can't cows fly?
It's just the way it is build.
By the way those averages I put at each method are very outdated, don't look at them.

You mean cubes aren't round!?!!?:eek::eek:
