my sister sent me this video she watched on instagram

it is a 2d visualization of the rubik's cube. I never thought of the cube this way, but it makes sense because it applies the group theory.

pretty interesting.

in the comments someone said that the game machinarium has a similar puzzle, and I found a video of it

this type of puzzles resemble intersecting circle/rings puzzles, a type of puzzles that I like a lot, and I now see that it is just a rubik's cube but it 2d.

there was a popular simulator we used to solve a few years ago

thinking about it, I think it is possible to create a 2d analog of the 3x3 in form of a free rotating track for marbles. then you mannually to the turns
EDIT: I don't know about rotations and the face turns that affect the pieces around tho...

Oh I was just expecting a square.

that is pretty neat... of course both images in the video, L & R, are 2D
though admittedly I am looking at it on a computer screen...

"I stand corrected," said the man in the orthopedic shoes...
